While I’m aware that all things exhaust-related are subjective I thought I’d share my 2 pence worth.

I recently did the following to my ‘20 M2: catless DP, AA single mid, Remus valved race exhaust, Mishimoto charge pipes.

Aside from the elimination of the “cows udder” and a bit of weight savings all I can say is: wow! Believe it or not, the S55 is now the best sounding car in the stable.

I turned off all the fake burbles (and of course the pouser ASD) so you hear all the natural sounds of the turbos and Dino juice going bang. It’s glorious.

If you don’t like the stock S55 sound I highly recommend making the change.

AA single mid resonated or not? Given other mods I would assume not, meaning that has got to be loud, very loud. Most people report a lot of rasp with a non resonated midpipe and catless downpipes.

I didn’t even know resonated was an option for the single. It’s just a nice low growl and bark at rpm under about 3500. In the upper revs under load it has a nice tone and does scream but not raspy. Total change from valves open stock sound.

It’s reasonable volume with the valves closed but loud with them open. Not as loud as you might think though. I have louder cars that I drive throughout the summer so I guess it’s all relative.

No videos. Really no good/accurate way to capture the sound without proper recording equipment. iPhone just washes out when it gets loud.

Certainly looks good though.

Fair point.
The top runners up are: straight piped twin turbo Lambo, piped V8 Audi R8, custom exhaust H6 porsche boxster, 1960’s V8 hot rod. There are others but they’re more mundane.

now you are trolling us

but I will say this, the M2C is not as bad sounding as everyone claims to be. Its a copycat thing. Someone did not like the sound and everyone just started saying they don't either. Even in stock form, its fine, some exhausts make it much better too.

I think everyone wants everything to sound like a V8. I have mentioned before, the e46 m3 sounds raspy and metallic too but no one ever talks about it. The OG M2 does sound better but if we are talking a great sound then e9x or bust.

Haha. Not trolling. I truly am in love with the S55 now.
And I agree — it never was terrible in stock form, other than the sophomoric burbles.

Are your downpipes catless? I ended up selling my EL for the single because I went with catless DP.

Stock downpipes. I might do the AA catted downpipes down the road.

You need a better sounding stable.

J/K

If you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

I don't mind mine with AA equal length and Remus Sport after it's warmed up, but it sounds awful on a cold startup.

What’s so bad about the start up sound?
