M2 Advice
Hi all,
I am considering an M2 as my next car. Explicitly an M2 LCI (non comp), I know coming onto here a lot will attempt to sway me into a competition package. Unfortunately, funds do not allow. Is there anything I should look out for? I am going to be looking at BMW approved used only. Any features that you feel are a must? How is the DCT in traffic and the car as an all round daily driver? I've been quite spoilt by my 430D in my opinion as an all round package. A bit silly asking you all the running costs of an M2 but it would still be a relatively important factor in purchasing this car. One car from main dealer stated that a full service will need to be performed next year, I've looked at BMW online fixed servicing and it comes up as £704. What MPG are you guys averaging and what other associated costs with the M2 that I should really be aware of? I currently run a 3.0 F32 diesel so I guess I will be in for a shock when it comes to the pumps. My mileage has significantly been reduced as of late, I only cover about 16 miles per day and average 35 mpg so I thought it would be a good time for a petrol. Thanks in advance. |

Great car, M2 LCI. Ran mine as a daily for 2.5 years. Perfectly comfortable enough. Moreso than my M3 TBH.
I found the M2 seats more comfortable, especially the base but M3 do hold you in more with the additional bolstering. My M2 also had lumbar support which the M3 Comp seats do not have. DCT too was perfectly well behaved, not as smooth as the 8sp ZF auto but certainly good enough and seems an improvement over the version in the E9x Mx cars. Oddly I am finding my M3CP has better fuel economy than the M2. I managed anywhere between 23.9mpg and 28.9mpg between fill ups and I did a lot of motorway miles out of the 29k I did in that time too. M3 is managing a couple of mpg more on the few tanks I've done since the swap. I only ever serviced the M2 once, next one would be due in a month or two but I would expect it to be cheaper than my M3 but noticably more than your 4er. Could always try a reputable independent instead. It's certainly worth the upgrade though. Do it! |

I also have an M240i in the household, averaging 26 mpg but it's got less than 4K miles on it. Doesn't seem too far out from that. I am swaying towards one, part of me thinks I'm massively overestimating the running costs of an "M" car. Lumbar support is a great optional extra, have it in my 4er but not too many specced with this it appears. |

I've had my M2 for 3.5 years, getting my new M2C in a couple of weeks.
I can't comment on the servicing cost as I had a service pack on the M2, which they don't do now. Mpg-wise I was very surprised. If I stick the cruise on and sit at 70 mph I can get 31/32 mpg, particularly on my winter tyres which are bit more efficient than summers. Round the town and in slow traffic 23/24 mpg. Hope you find the spec you want. |

Hello mate. My 2p's worth as a new M2 owner. I've just got myself an LCI Non Comp M2, in alpine white. I came from a 530e M Sport and must admit I found the M2 really uncomfortable at first. My 5 series was like riding along on Aladdin's carpet, it was probably the comfiest car I have ever owned.
After a few days of driving the M2 I soon got used to it. I read online about reducing the tyre pressures on the fronts, they were inflated to 35 PSI at the dealership. I dropped them to 32 and the difference has been remarkable! Honestly, it feels like a different car and I'm so much happier with it now. It now feels plenty comfortable enough and the noise and performance is just fantastic. I find myself driving to work in the morning and ending up with a huge smile on my face coming round the corner into the car park. Do it, you will not regret it. |

Hold out for the Icons. They are worth it. Had them on my M2 and have them on the M3 too. Wouldn't get a car without them now. |

However, one niggle was the harsh ride and the lack of lumbar support.... I felt tired after that drive haha. Coming from a 4er will always be subpar ride wise though. |
