Are you joking? Just about every other car in the line up can do that, please don't make the 2 series bigger.

I suppose I could move...
Well, I too think adding xDrive to the G87 M2 would be a good move. I "think" the xDrive is an option the newer M cars makes sense. And besides, the M5 MxDrive has a mode for RWD only. BMW needs to consider things that will make this car enticing for many types of drivers, not just "hard core" enthusiast. There are a lot of people who purchase these cars that support the genre of M cars who are not "hard core" enthusiast. Without those people, the M genre could not support itself with only "Hard Core Enthusiast". Just my opinion.
All of these options will drive the price up a bunch.

What do you suppose an M2 with MxDrive would cost?

The bigger question, with the M3/M4 being a real porker will the M2 follow or be somewhat lightweight

Seeing as the current one is already a porker, my bets are on the former and not the latter.

That car is all about the engine and living in the upper rpms, already know the s58 isn't that. Maybe it will be the same length, but it's going to weigh more than the e9x.

M2 has the normal grilles?

If this render is accurate, it looks so much better than the M3/M4, amazing how much more I like this look.

BMW should offer a classic front end treatment for The G80. They made a huge mistake, but they have time to fix it, now is the time.

I want the focus to continue to be in driving dynamics...and for crying out loud, improved steering!

I'd be good with a small bump in HP to like 415. Just make this thing awesome to drive with a good sounding exhaust. And maybe a better sounding HK stereo.

Edit: and good call out above. I noticed that front overhang as well and do not like. makes me wonder how planted the vehicle could feel with such a short wheel base relative to the body length
Cause you drive slow just kidding but go onto the track section and see how many track rats mod for horsepower on the OG and you get the idea...

Hell I even find my M2C slow even though I am not after horsepower.

Practically, it has to be competitive against the current and upcoming range of performance cars. A90 Supra, RS3 and A45 aside, it makes no sense for BMW to charge a 50%+ premium on the M2 over the 400Z, STi and Civic type R while only offering a similar level of straight line performance. I am sure all the aforementioned cars upcoming are going to have great driving dynamics. The current Supra and A45 certainly has it.

I agree with you that the driving dynamics has to be a focus but both great handling and acceleration prowess are attributes on the performance chart that they need to make strides on. One must not neglect one for the other.
Fair enough, and I get your point.

It just depends on how you want or intend to drive the car. I don't really need 450hp to tear through twisty mountain roads in Colorado...or I risk driving off the side of a mountain lol.

But I can certainly see the appeal and desire to have it for track duty, which I don't drive on.

So as they say, to each their own.

But I'm glad we can agree on driving dynamics in general. As has been mentioned, I feel like the M2 is the only shot BMW has at creating "the ultimate driving machine". If it fails, there really isnt anywhere for me to go in the brand's lineup to get a reasonably sized car that is fun to drive. Holding out hope!

Have you ever driven an F8x equipped with a GTS ecu flash? The steering is extremely heavy (in Sp+) and comparable to HPS.

It’s already been confirmed that the G87 will have HUD based on the new 2 series spy pics.

Point taken. As irrational as it may be the S55 hub thing is in the back of my head, but the more I think about it I may just do a current M2 lease which may work out timing wise for the new M2 release and I can reevaluate then.
