I took delivery of my M2 competition 2020 with less than 15 miles right off the truck drove the car home with all the wrapping on the paint.

What I noticed after I went over the paint. I was in the process of prepping the car for a minor paint correction and I was doing a Dcon.

After inspecting the paint I didn't notice any spiderwebs light scratches or holograms I was pretty impressed. No swirl marks.

I know in the past I have taken delivery of brand new cars from other brands the car had come with spiderwebs mooring holograms in the paint.

BMW actually did a very good job prepping to paint before the car was shipped.

I have bought BMWs for over 40 years. I have never seen paint flaws on any of my cars at delivery.

Your experience with the M2C is what I would have expected.

Same experience for me.
HS is hard color to evaluate but it looked great to me.
I hit it with Griots Fast Correcting and Sealant before going in for film.
Not much effort required.

IMHO, the paint seems to be much thinner and/or prone to chipping and scratching than in years past

Some people say it's because of the water based paints they're using these days

Indeed, the paint on the M2C is really bad... my HS already has a few chips from basic day to day driving... and I drive very little and very carefully (never tailgate etc.)

BMWs paint rarely has flaws in it from factory. Also yes to the paint not being as durable since they went to water based paint. More noticeable orange peel on late models too.

Agreed, ever since the auto industry went with water based paint. Every car forum has mentioned the downgrade of their paints.

Great time for the PPF industry

I requested that my cars not be washed by the dealer and to just pull the plastic. The shop that did the paint correction, PPF and ceramic coating on my M2 and 440 said the paint was in so much better shape than what’s typical of new cars. I suspect the washing process at the dealer produces a lot of swirls.

Yes I agree- And it's sad when you are spending between $70-$100,000 on a car nowadays for the paint the come out looking like crap from the dealer.

One thing I will never do is purchase a car in the evening and have them wash the car and bring it to you at night because the car will always look amazing at night under the lights.

German cars generally have really good paint and I've never had a problem with it.

I had Honda's when I was younger, and the paint will disintegrate/crack/peel/burn if you so much as look at it wrong.

Same. I actually asked my dealer to leave all the plastic/shipping stuff on my car (both exterior AND interior), because I wanted my PPF guy to be the one to carefully remove all of it prior to doing paint correction and PPF. On delivery day, I drove it straight from dealer to PPF shop, and took the train home, lol. Didn't even get to enjoy the car, but didn't want to risk it.

Really love my dealer actually; my sales guy knew I'm OCD so he's like okay "no front plate install, no dealer license frame in the back, no dealer stickers, no-wash, leave all shipping materials on car, and store inside Delivery Center (not showroom) upon receiving until you take delivery - you got it!" Then he bought me lunch during delivery day. What an amazing experience honestly.

What would you suggest to prep then wax the new paint with? I've always debated having the dealer have some lot guy go after a brand new one with a buffer. I ask because I'm awaiting delivery of an M2CS.
Thanks!!

I would use Maguires Professional finishing polish.
M210 M110. A medium cutting pad. This will make the paint look like glass and also follow up of course for the paint sealant a few layers of wax and then a wax sealant.
