Looks like the Dorch pricing did indeed increase $200 (S1 and S2) once the 1st batch sold out. I wondered if that price was actually going to increase..

WTF! Nice work! It’s amazing what fairly plug & play FBO, turbo, and fueling parts, plus a tune can do for the N55!

I’m curious about your IATs. When do you think you‘ll be able to do several back to back pulls or get on track to see how quickly they spike?

Again, nice work!

Thanks!
During the pulls the IATs looked really good, will try to get the logs. Its pretty cold here atm also, and that might have helped. Halim was very pleased by what he saw

Damn those are some crazy torque figures, do you have any data logs you could share?

I also wonder what the numbers would look like with corrections.

Pretty sure it's in ps and nm.

Translated it'd be 529hp 562ft-lbs

That turbo is rated for 550ps, so it's about at its limit.

Yes I was wondering why it made so much torque.

I installed the FX-150 on my 2013 135is and am a really disappointed at the tapping/ticking sound at idle. In the engine bay it doesn't really make any more sound, but in the cabin with the windows closed its very loud and annoying. It can hear it coming through the floor boards It's like its resonating through the engine/transmission mounts into the cabin.

Anyone found a solution to this?

I wish I waited for the Dorch unit, it seems like a much better kit at a lower price.

I think they all add noise because the sound deadning material is removed for these upgrades.

Is said material inside the pump or external?

I don't think any material outside/around the pump will help. The ticking sound I'm hearing with the FX-150 is being transmitted through the engine itself. The sound under the hood seems to be largely unchanged.

It may be possible to get used to it but any passenger or other human is going to think something is broken under the hood.

I believe it's the build of the pump itself, not outside insulation. I'm pretty sure you could put sound deadening foam in that area if the pump doesn't need to radiate heat off. But otherwise you'll be stuck with the tick.

I've seen another person on Spool Street complain regarding the same ticking noise. Have you reached out to Spool to see if this is "expected" behavior.

Quote:
Another issue i'm experiencing is a faint ticking noise that is RPM dependant which we (me and David) suspect to be the HPFP since i noticed it around the time we installed the pump.
I have not dug into this further, and it being the hpfp is just an assumption, can be something else entirely, will report back once i know more, but would love to hear other's experiences with it.

So this appears to be only with the Spool product, not the XDI or Dorch versions?

I've not heard of this complaint before.

Yes, they said that no one else has has this complaint. I sent them videos as well but the phone has a hard time picking up the high-pitched ticking sound over the other low frequency sounds.

I also reached out to Dorch and they basically said that any aftermarket pump will have additional ticking sounds. Reducing rail pressure at idle can help. Mine is currently targeting 1,017psi at idle, which I think is stock. I've reached out to my tuner to see if this is an option.

For a track car I think the sound is bearable, but for a street car trying to maintain daily driveability and comfort I am not too happy with the ticking. Usually high power and comfort don't go hand-in-hand, which is why I suspect most people are okay with the sound.

Interesting, I would opt for the dorch option but I really like the AN lines that the spool hpfp offers, since it makes it easier to upgrade fuel lines and add filters.

I see the benefit of using AN lines for flexibility with adding other things later on, but to me they are cheap. I would much prefer the hardlines like OEM. The Spool LP AN line was ~4" too long, so it was hard to make fit neatly. Also, the Spool LP line goes from the HPFP all the way down to the blue plastic LP fuel line which connects underneath the driver's feet. This means its not compatible with Fuel-It's upgraded fuel lines which are meant to connect to the LP hardline attached to the engine block.

Spool also uses a quasi-flexible rubber high pressure line that looks cheesy and out of place when installed. It also rubs the alternator or intake manifold depending on which you prefer, prevents the vacuum line to the brake booster from fully seating, and interferes with removing the oil filter cover. Dorch uses a custom HP hardline.

Overall not too impressed with the Spool kit given the price tag. If it was a $500 kit I would be more understanding. For a fuel pump that's $1500 OTD I expect perfection.

The Dorch kit seems better engineered and at a lower price tag. I wish I waited!

Thank you for your feedback, Sir. Sorry you’re stuck with a pump you’re unhappy with.

My brand new XDI-35 started ticking on the second day of having it installed. It went away after driving and hasn't returned but ill be keeping an ear out for it. Tuning Tech said it was Tuning related but my tuner has neither acknowledged or denied this statement. Ill keep you posted. Currently running into fueling issues at high RPM on E45. Still getting the tune ironed out.
