Broken shift Rod
So this morning I park in my good no door ding spot at the gym and I go to put the car in reverse to straighten out and the shifter brakes off.
Not like in your hand but not connected to anything. You can spin it around. Pulled off the boot and nothing obvious. The car now at the dealership. Pissed! |

Try switch hitting from time to time. Sounds like you buffed up miss Susie Right a bit too much.

I’m actually shocked this happened. When I switched my shift knob I had to basically plant both feet on the ground, put the shifter in second gear and start doing dead lifts to remove the knob. Of course, when it finally did come off I punched myself in the face.
Are you sure it’s not just unseated? I only ask because the knob is just connected by friction, it doesn’t screw on like most cars. The linkage should simply have a notch in the center and the shifter just sits on top of it, held on by friction. You really have to slam the shifter down on the rod to get it to seat properly. |

I don't think OP is talking about the decorative knob coming off the shifter inside the car.
I think he means the linkage to the 'box under the floor plan has broken? Can you clarify OP? |

New shifter
While your doing this you might consider putting in an Autosolutions Ultimate Short Shifter. I just installed one myself and the difference is incredibly precise shifts. That OEM Shift Arm is hollow rolled steel, tack welded where it broke off. Mine is sitting on my work bench, and I just inspected it. Autosolutions is much higher quality. Rifle Bolt like action.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
