I have a 2018 LCI M2 with the carbon fiber M Perf tips, and they rattle like crazy for about 15 seconds on a cold start. I agree this new M2C design with the clamp looks like the fix. I'm sure they're rattling because my style is held with a single set screw instead of this clamp (I made sure they were pushed all the way in, but they still rattle). Now, the trick will be to convince my dealership to replace my tips with the "fix" new style design under warranty. Will try in a few weeks and report back.
Looks like the M2C tips will fit the OG M2 Performance Exhaust. I found two sites that say they fit both M2C and OG M2. Quote:

You can try removing the tips and see if you still get the rattle. My shop tried that and it would still rattle, so I doubt if the new tips will fix it.

Has any tried using exhaust assembly paste (Wurth) in conjunction with the pipe mating clamp area (pipe to pipe not pipe to clamp, obviously).

Just DIY'd my MPE last week, zero rattles/vibrating noise on cold start or any other time. Will keep you guys updated if anything changes.

Haven't had a chance to make to the dealer yet, but the 20 second rattle is really annoying and can be heard loud inside the car. Not what you want to hear upon every start up from performance exhaust. All M Performance parts are warrantied for two years, so I'm thinking the dealer should be willing to swap them out for the new style tips with the clamps. I will update soon with my outcome.

1. the fact that you've added more noise by removing the cat and now you simply can't hear the rattles anymore due to the increase in exhaust volume or 2. the reduced backpressure changed the exhaust resonance and the vibrations/rattles were coincidentally reduced as a result |

Confirmed my noise is coming from the tips vibrating on cold start. Pulled them off and noise was gone. Here is the video:
Put them back on, pushed all the way in, and secured tightly. Same vibration noise was back, and you can clearly see the tips vibrating, causing the noise. Here is that video: Seems to simply be a consequence of poor design, and I'm wondering if the new style carbon fiber tips with the clamps will fix this. If not, I'll probably go with the chrome tips. This noise is too annoying to tolerate on every start up. |

Car is currently at the dealer. They acknowledge the 20-30 second cold start rattle is not normal noise and are committed to fixing it. They are going to replace the muffler tomorrow, even though I pointed out it's clearly the tips because the noise goes away when you remove them. Seems like a hoop they have to go through for BMW, but they said if the new muffler doesn't fix it, they'll look at changing to the new style tips with the clamp.

It's normal. They literally all do this. For better or worse, it's how it was designed.
If you don't think that's the case, show us one example of an M2 + MPE that doesn't do this upon cold start. |

Yep, it is a design flaw, but my dealer agreed it sounds terrible and they are committed to fixing it. They replaced the M Performance exhaust and, of course, the rattle was still here once the tips were reinstalled. They ordered a new set of these tips, but I know they will rattle all the same when they install them tomorrow. At that point, they seem like they will cave and order the new style M2C tips with the clamps, which I believe will eliminate the noise.

Update: After two weeks at the dealer and replacing both the M Performance exhaust and trying new (old style) carbon fiber tips, the dealer agreed to replace with the new style 2019 M2C carbon fiber tips. I'm pretty positive the rattle will be gone once installed.
