BM3 only clears/blocks CEL for O2 sensors for cat-less DP right? If it's any other issues CEL will light up.

A BM3 map (with CAT delete on) will prevent the DME detecting CAT faults, so no CEL for that fault.

All other CELs will work normally.

It's not like simple code clearing / blocking , like JB3/4 etc, that just clears all CELs automatically regardless of what they are.

Has the bug with DCT GTS flash been resolved? I am having a problem with it.

Flash their CS trans map and that’s perfect.

Random question here. My DME is locked as I have a 2020 m2 BUT my local carbahn tune shop can bench unlock my DME. Once I'm unlocked via bench flash am I than now open to flash BM3 on my own? They're willing to unlock my DME without flashing their tune. T

Once its unlocked, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. But if you take it in for service, BMW might re-update and lock you out again.

You can always request no software updates, but that might raise unwanted questions.

They won’t reupdate if whatever they do for unlock keeps versions of software unchanged. Basically unlock what you have now and you should be good.

Well, the unlock is to flash an older ECU version. Else they would have a key or crack for the DME, which I don't know of any shops that do. /shrug

If flashing to an older ecu version to unlock, what do you lose? I heard the latest software versions have better steering feel, etc. Would you lose those updates?

The first iteration of the DME took like 4 years to hack; we'll all probably move on to the next G-Series generation M2 by the time they successfully get around in circumventing this new bootloader.

Did you run a Test Plan to see what's the requirement to clear the data manipulation code?

I heard that fault codes like these or anything related to milage tampering gets permanently etched into the vehicle's EEPROM but I'm curious to what's ISTA's official solution to such an issue.

They should just put a hacker bounty on it to see if they can get someone else more experienced with security to do it for them for a price.

No they unlock the new latest version but they do it on bench as OBD can’t do it.

There are a lot of smart people out there, I'm sure someone will eventually reverse-engineer the current boot-loader.

It's really just a matter of how long it takes for the right person to penetrate the firewall and rewrite the programming to their own terms.

On the other end, I'm not upset at BMW, as they own the proprietary software and I can't blame them for trying to protect it, in an attempt to minimize the liability of potential warranty of claims.

There's a lot of smart people out there but so many of them are busy breaking into something else for fun or profit and this isn't even on their radar.

That's an excellent point.

It's not exactly an iPhone or PlayStation, so right eyes are not focus on it, unfortunately.

I guess we just have wait until someone with the right skill set, in the appropriate field and motivated by profit gain, cracks it open.

There's probably some guns for hire on 4chan or reddit but someone would have to pony up...
