And the BMW build quality vs. a Chevy? No thanks.
I bought a C6Z new. zero build quality issues. I assume you mean, is it broken?

I ordered an M2C, it came with a missing cam follower in the HPFP assembly. 3 "drivetrain malfunction" visits until dealer figured it out.

I've bought 3 other GM cars new, no issues

I've bought 3 other BMW's new. X3 ok, X5 OK, E92N54 bad HPFP at 14K miles

GM Build quality > BMW based on my sample size..

i love my M2c btw.. it's a blast to drive, looks great, roomy for me (and a passenger, it's a 2 seater for me). quick, responsive, handles and stops great. it will get shit on by the vette but I still love it.

No more. The C8 is not only powerful, but, dare we say, it's also the most premium-feeling Corvette that Chevrolet has ever made. It's the quickest Corvette to ever roll off the assembly line and up to a stoplight, and it somehow still starts at $60,000. And this is just the beginning.
Yeah, it was an interesting review. Although I will note that the braking issues and the unpredictability of understeer vs spin raises some red flags for me. I'm not saying the M2C is perfect or stable, but it's predictable and predictably unstable on the rear end, which makes it fun/easy to drive. I can see having to unlearn and relearn my brake and throttle modulations to drive the C8 as frustrating, but cannot deny those performance numbers.

Just for some perspective... here's a Farrari GTB review from Motor Trend: https://www.motortrend.com/news/ferr...t-drivers-car/

"It would create quite a bit of understeer, and I'd be pushing enough that I couldn't go to power. So I realized the best strategy was to stay off the power longer and let it get turned more for a really late apex, so I could straighten up and just shoot down that next straightaway because it gains speed with amazing rapidity."

"I was not real happy with the brakes. I didn't get that initial bite, you know, not like the Corvette. You know good old GM?" (referring to the C7 here)

Who here wouldn't want the 2017 488 GTB with abysmal reviews like that??

IMO once you reach a certain performance threshold, splitting hairs doesn't matter to the buyer as much as the design language and IMO that's where the C8 wins. I'm sure GM will tune everything as they race it and the platform evolves, but in the meantime... the looks (in no small part due to the engine configuration) are enough to sell it alone.

The only thing that can kill the demand for it is if they somehow have reliability issues (like the Alfa's, who just can't get away from the stigma).

I would imagine GM will dial in less understeer for the higher performance versions. I can understand why they made the base car somewhat safe handling as they know their demographic well and are protecting owners from killing themselves. That straight line acceleration is very impressive even if at $90k the car isn't exactly the bargain the artificial $60k launch price made it out to be.

What you’re describing should be the base car. The z51 should handle properly, as there’s no reason for posers to get that package.

Glad to hear your issue finally sorted out.

What was the final verdict?

I love the M2, but I would probably take the new Vette over it. That said, with a 3 year old and a 10 year old, I'm stuck needing at least somewhat of a backseat for a while. The M2 has just enough!

Pretty much but I'll rephrase for youZ
Bmw in general is sporty. M2 and it's M friends are taking a DAILY Driver focused car and making it trackable.

A Corvette is purpose built for tracking.

The stingray is taking a corvette and making it daily driver friendly. But in reality the M2 and Corvette are far too different to be considered competitors.

Corvette competes with 911 or Evora. BMW doesn't offer a purpose built sports car. i8 sort of and M next is the proposed corvette competitor.

This is one of those great marketing successes. Because German engineering superior to ze Americans. I mentioned this in another thread concerning both my former BMW and my 718. Both had issues. I’ve had two minor recalls on the Boxster. The DCT on the 135is was always trying to kill me and would bend rims at the blink of an eye. I still love both vehicles.

Say what you will about the interior which has been fine since the C7, but all I’ve had to do in almost 30,000 miles is oil changes and air filters. Oil changes are like $60 at the dealer. Porsche dealer in DC wanted over $700 to change the oil on my Boxster so I found a more qualified independent mechanic who charges about 1/3. I don’t even think I need spark plugs on the stingray until 100,000 miles. Despite the initial price if you want to say it’s expensive, it’s cheap to own. I’m on the list for my C8. It’s a bargain IMO.
