Few Action Items with the M2
O Hai!
Happy Monday. Tiger has won the Masters and all is good with the world! Will cut to the chase so here it goes. What are those 2 blue things that is strapped together? My guess that it's a fix-a-flat but not sure. I realized the rear fender is getting a lot of rock chips from just normal driving, so I covered it with painters tape for now. Are the rock chips coming from the rear tire or the front? or both? Any effective remedies? Im debating between putting a clear film on that spot (replace the oem one with a larger piece) or i should install one of those mud guard looking things. Any help would be appreciated! Oh and here is a picture of my cute baby just for fun. Thanks!!! |

1. Yes tire repair kit I believe
2. Front tires throw rocks back to the thicc hips of all M2s. Highly recommend getting the original film replaced with a much larger one covering most (if not all) of the rear quarter 3. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Wow....never thought it came from the front tires. But i guess it makes sense. How much would it cost to have the rear fender area covered in PPF? ballpark figures? Thanks!! |

The clear film from bmw could be bigger, I decided against doing any additional PPF and at 3k miles I already have some rock chips in the surrounding area from driving through the winter.
My opinion is that unless you do full ppf you will end getting a scratch or rock chip in the area that doesn't have ppf on it. |

KEEP THE PUPPERS COMING THEY ARE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
I'm leaning towards getting these arch guards instead of wrapping. Anyone have experience with these? https://automotivepassion.net/produc...ch-guards-f87/ Im leaning on these for a few reasons. 1. At only 1,500 miles the car already has a good amount of chips on them so it's not the end of the world if i dont protect the area perfectly. I would like to stop new ones from forming. 2. Including labor it may not be worth the price of PPF given that there are already chips on it. I feel like BMW should have put bigger film in that area given that they already put one from the factory. Why not spend the extra few pennies and charge us the extra? ORRRR i can just keep putting painters tape hahah. THey kinda look nice, like purposeful and mean with the blue patch taped on there! |

Wow, good to get some feedback from an actual owner. Do they stick out far and low enough that all the rocks are deflected? From the pictures it seems like some of the rocks can still get kicked back... Please halp! Thanks

Here's an alternative to the carbon fiber that I found.
They offer two material choices, PVC for normal every day use and KAYLAN PU (Polyurethane) used by World Rally Teams based on its capability of withstanding repeated flexing. https://www.performancecreations.co....aps-2924-p.asp |

I have 37,000 Arizona miles with 22 track days so I can speak very well to the exposed areas of the M2 for chipping. Answer is cover the entire front of the car with Xpel, those rear haunches where you have the blue tape up high like you have and the entire rockers under the doors. I had my guy Robbie at Protective Film Solutions do everything but the rockers and realized after about 5,000 miles that they take a beating on the Arizona roads. The only chip I have is on the A pillar, not a huge deal. Had I chose not to cover all of the areas I did my car would look terrible. Arizona roads (high speed roads) are really tough on cars so Xpel is a must here, depending on where you drive etc you might not have as much of a need as I do but based on your extensive use of blue tape I am guessing you are as OCD as I am so I would find a good installer and get your car done.

Hmm good idea on the expanded ppf. I actually did the same on my f80, and it probably makes more sense to do on the M2.

Regarding the Automotive Passion CF flaps, one thing I didn't love was the way the installations show it between the metal fender and the plastic wheel well liner. It seems to create a little "opening" at the top of the flap where debris will sneak in and accumulate. Wondering if anyone has noticed this, or if anyone has considered mounting them over the plastic wheel well liner instead, and if that seems possible?

I have guards on the front wheel arches. It helps but does not fully address the issue. You are right the plastic sheet BMW provides is NOT big enough. I got the rear quarters XPEL wrapped, I could not really justify the cost but the chips will just get worse so bit the bullet. The original plastic sheet is removed and my wrap goes from the door back to the curved edges on the rear bumper. It only goes as high as the sway line long the length of the vehicle. My Xpel wrap guy, detailed the area before the wrap was applied therefore now you really do not see the chips due to him polishing them out + the layer of Xpel. You should reconsider! MJ |

I live in L.A., and had Xpel installed on my M2 within a week of taking delivery.
I covered the entire front bumper, hood, both doors and a few other areas. I've had my car now for just over a year, and not a chip on it! If you do want to consider Xpel, send me a private message and I'll give you the guys name and phone number. He does an amazing job! You honestly cannot tell that the doors have PPF, and the area directly adjacent doesn't! |

For those of you who replaced the rear ppf, how big is the piece you replaced it with? Curious to see the shape and where the seams end up.
And to keep this thread on topic, here is my four legged copilot:
