Fenders look the same to me. Also, it uses even the same tire sizes as confirmed in earlier leaks of the white CS mule (245 front/265 rear but Cup 2s instead of PSS).

I think the CS formula for (Auto Only) when it is an enthusiast version...... is missing the point.
I think BMW lists more of a track focused version, so according to their intended use, if it's only going to have one transmission DCT makes the most sense.

That said, I don't believe it's really track focused. I think it's just throw CF parts on it, remove a few quality of life features to save 15 pounds, bump HP by 10 via software, add an exclusive color, and charge 40% more. Maybe you get the magnesium oil pan.

If they ONLY gave it the MT it would probably sell better to tell you the truth, making it more "special"

It's interesting that this is said to be a US only model, while the US would not get the CSL. The manual trans take rate on the m2 was said to be 50% in the US. It would make sense to me for manual to be an option, if not the only option, for a limited run spec. Then build one for the rest of the world with a DCT and maybe some changes that wouldn't pass DOT regs in the US.

The North American market loves manuals in these type of cars.

It is possible the Cayman 6 that we discussed early in this thread may be a US/Canada only car. This could be due to manual transmission take rate and the lack of Particulate Filter, so the car in the NA market could be made with a different exhaust entirely. BMW may want to make sure a 718 6 Cylinder US/Canada only car, does not take people into the Porsche eco system.

Unfortunately I'm kind of disappointed by this.

I was hoping for it to be more "special" but I was also hoping for 2020, not 2019. 2020 I'll be able to swing buying it, but not this year.

I want a true CSL, with carbon fibre everything, more power, and DCT (not sure if I 100% want this since it's a track toy). A true modern day E46 CSL.

The biggest disappointment is the timing though. Hopefully there is a CSL still in the cards for 2020.

Oh yeah, let's just have BMW postpone launching a car to fit YOUR schedule... Seems like a very reasonable thing to be upset about...

Maybe we will hear about it this year, and be able to order in 2020. I'm in for the 6MT. Timing isn't ideal with my current lease, but I'll just have to have both for a bit.

I'm not asking for sympathy from you, or from BMW for that matter.

Merely expressing my disappointment that if it comes out a year earlier than I was expecting, then I probably won't be able to enjoy it unless it's announced this year and delivered next year.

You want to destroy a CSL on Winnipeg roads? There isn't even a real track within a 10hr drive of there. I lived there at one point in my life and that place isn't even good for a rwd performance car that would barely get a chance at 4months of decent driving in the year. Best get an RS3 in that climate anyways.

I guess I'll just retreat to my igloo and take my dog-sled to work everyday, then live my meaningless life out that way.

sounds like a plan haha. You're a tougher man than I am for staying there; not having a decent track was bad enough let alone constantly below -30, bad crime and the intolerant WPS for car mods. Lived many places in Canada and that one tops the worst.

This release projection has been in these forums for the past 8+ months... We all expected a CS this year at exactly this time

Why on earth would BMW test a car with very specific parts if they're not releasing it? I am in the exact same boat as you (Lbb M2C on order) however I am waiting on prices before I decide to abandon my allocation and order a CS. I wouldn't take your name off the order just yet

I'll admit that it's been an exceptionally terrible winter this year. Lots of snow and lots of cold.

Most years I don't have to put away my M4 until mid-November, and it's out by April, so 4 1/2 months. This year will probably be end of April.

We do have a decent track about an hour north of the city, nothing like in the southern US, or Europe, but decent nonetheless.

There's crime in every city and definitely areas to avoid. WPS feel that all of the crime in the city has been solved and harass motorists instead.

I lived in Minnesota for 4 years during Grad School. I'm very happy to be back.

Depends on your preferences:
  • if you ordered an M2 Competition then that car can be sitting on your driveway in the near future if you honor your contractual commitments with your BMW dealer or leasing company; you can enjoy driving it from this Spring or Summer onwards;
  • if you want an M2 CS sitting on your driveway, it will take renegotiating your M2C deal or a future 'M2C to M2 CS' trade-in deal, quite some time and patience (the car has not been announced yet, cannot be ordered yet, official release date currently unknown), more money (no pricing known yet, but M3 CS and M4 CS pricing was steep) and likely a bit of luck to get hold of a build slot in the future if demand turns out to be high.
The M2 CS is no 'fake news' - the car is in the works (see dedicated threads here and here).
