Curious what the 45e would cost over the 40i and the M50i over the 50i. The M50i is confirmed for MY20, right?

Thanks!
Market intro timeline is always kept current in the top post.

Precise option availability and pricing are outside the scope of this thread.

Thanks!

So I guess that means as long as it is listed for a MY20 U.S. introduction in the first post, there is no information available stating the opposite.

Wow. That sounds pretty confident. However, there are some other news that kinda contradicts it. For one, the 7 series LCI won't be getting the new dash. If a top of the line car won't be getting the new dash with an LCI, why would they update the X3 in a casual production update? The G30 will also be just getting the new instrument cluster and not the new dash for MY2020?

You are wrong. The 7 series LCI got the live dash upgrade. Live dash upgrade does not equal dashboard redesign. I'm pretty sure he is very confident because he works there and has access to confidential info. But sure, let's take your word for it over his.

By this definition, the 7 series LCI is still using the old dash. One clear indicator is the location of the ignition button. The ignition button is located next to the instrument cluster in the old dash. For the new dash, the ignition button is located next to the gear selector.

Yes, the 7 series LCI does have the new instrument cluster.

Live cockpit/dash as BMW has called (both ways) that we are talking about as the updated dash includes both instrument cluster and center screen iDrive on the 7 series LCI, and not just the IC.

Thanks for the clarification. Now things makes more sense. Updating the instrument cluster and the Idrive 7 are simple enough for BMW to change anytime.

Yeah exactly. I think people were imagining the 3 series or X5 interior complete dashboard and controls update, but it was more of the actually systems instead.

It's not that simple. The 2018 vehicle electronics project was a huge undertaking. Naming it simply "iDrive 7" as if it's just another iteration of an old system totally undersells its scope.

Don't be mistaken. I'm sure the R&D took a lot of work for the Idrive 7. But once it is developed as a system/module, they can easily put it in across all the newer models of BMW. It is designed this way to minimize the mix of components that they have to make and keep inventory.

Thanks for the info.

Ok this explains a lot. I think we all took “dash” to mean more than just the gauge cluster and idrive screen. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to live with that ugly sliding compartment cover in the center console in the X3M

It is way more - just look at all the modules listed in the docs a couple of posts above. But it's definitely not the "totally new interior layout" more.

Though as an engineer I value the invisible part of this upgrade much higher than the shape of the dashboard plastic and decorative inserts.

Thanks for sharing. I took a look through them and it is a significant upgrade over the current (besides the backwards rev counter ). Do you know if the gauge cluster will receive much tweaks for the M models (X3M, M3, etc)?

Thanks!

Interested in this too, i.e., M specific visuals/software for Live Cockpit gauges.

It should be possible to figure this out the same way the M2 Competition logo was found in the regular M2 firmware. But I just don't work with this stuff, so it'll have to be someone else.

Not to mention having a slightly dated dashboard and center console that is used in the g11 7 series (launched back in 2015). Oh well...

M2 CS details. Seems it'll make a lot of people happy. BMW can still do things right.

Will the M2 CS be a 2 or a 4 seater?

Apart from the blue colours. What is it with the M2 and terrible blue choices. They just can't get it right.

Long Beach Blue and Misano when you have Marina Bay and San Marino in the arsenal.

They are awful. Misano hides all the lines, just look at it on the X2.

But the specs look good for the CS. Thanks for the info. Alpine White it is then.

I was thinking this the other day. What's next in the product pipeline?

4-series, M3/4, X6, 2-series, LCI 5er....then nothing really else on the horizon. I suspect the 7-series will receive a [much needed] redesign in roughly 3-4 years time.
