But I can agree to a certain extent. And I'll back out whatever changes I can to get it as close to original configuration. just haven't had a chance to get around to that yet. My dealer is not likely to look for or notice a subtle change like a disclaimer screen missing. Waze is the killer app for sure once it's released, otherwise I haven't missed Carplay much. Seemed to get in the way as much as helped me out. But I started getting into podcasts and now don't have a way to access them, so there's that. |

I thought I'd update everyone. I eventually got CarPlay from https://www.bimmer-tech.net, it was the easiest install ever. You would get a file emailed to you and all you have to do was put it on a USB stick and follow some simple steps involving turning the car on/off. Excellent experience!

Carplay Wont Stop Reading Messages
Hey all, I'm new around here (picked car up saturday!) so if this is an obvious question please bear with me.
I've had some troubles with apple carplay, specifically in that it won't stop reading things out loud and going to siri when I open up my phone to read text messages. Anybody know how to turn this off? Also, whenever I use voice control or hit the phone button on the steering wheel to call someone it doesn't work. Do I need to link my phone to bluetooth in addition to carplay for this to work? Cheers! |

Carplay is a display of your phone. Seeing the app you are using on your phone is how it works. No way to stop it.
As for the button, if you press it it will activate the BMW voice control. If you HOLD it, siri... |

And yes, CarPlay sucks. Kiddos to you for at least trying to get it to work for a few days. Many end up shutting it off within 24 hours.

j/k - but the fact is, more people shut it off than keep it on. Hard to explain, cause I've used it in other cars and it works nice - maybe the BMW iDrive system is just that good? I dunno - I do wish I had my $600 back (two cars, one I ordered and the other just came with it). The subscription option going forward will be good for a lot of reasons a) lower entry price - if you hate it, you are not out a full $300 b) incentive to BMW to enhance it to keep subscribers Alas, my post was to tell the OP it is ok to be frustrated by it - because many are (and just to point out, its not him )

Really don't see how you can hate CarPlay if you own an iPhone. It's literally almost an exact copy of an iPhone but on your car screen.
Also it is 100% maintained by Apple and not individual car systems. The car just provides a conduit to display the information that lives on the iPhone. Sounds more like user error and or just needing to get used to it. I can say anecdotally that almost everyone I know likes CarPlay. |

I don't agree. My experience in a Dodge rental was superior to my experience in my BMW. What was different you ask? I honestly don't remember - but it just worked and worked well.

I had an aftermarket car stereo with CarPlay for 2 years and then bought a BMW. It's 100% the same. |

I live in Los Angeles and commute during rush hour traffic. Roughly 50% of my time is spent stopped at lights. Perfectly reasonable IMO to use your phone to send or read texts at this time.

I noticed the music sound quality clarity and volume slightly off compared to the BT on my iPhone 7. Or is it an operator's error?
Just got my LBB last Saturday, by the way. |

I've only used carplay to play music from my phone thus far so I'm not sure. You could be right though!
