Subs are holding value, the LVc is selling higher than MSRP and Daytona Ceramics are selling second hand on an average of $19k, that's six over retail. There's no such thing as a base Daytona anymore. But even trying to buy an excellent condition Daytona with steel bezel will set you back $13-15k on a used watch, still over retail.

Bottom line if you buy your ss sports Rolex at MSRP, you will at worst break even. Any other model you'd take a $1-2k hit which isn't bad at all. My buddy just sold his two year old Planet Ocean 8500 and could only trade it at the highest amount of $1800. Breitlings, Omega, and Blancpain, etc.. will take a huge hit on resale. The only strong value holders are Patek and Rolex and a few APs.

In the end buy what you really like and plan to keep and you won't have any worries.
Msrp on the 116610ln (black ceramic sub) is almost $9k. They sell all day on the used market at 7.

Msrp on the 116710ln (black ceramic gmt) is almost 9k. Again, they sell at 7k used.

Same goes for the datejust. You're looking at 10-20% difference between new and used.

The ceramic Daytonas are a "limited" edition. Same with the LVs, BLNRs, the newest Basel watches, etc with years long waitlist for most. Hence the premium price.

And yeah you're going to get fleeced on trading in. Its like cars. I was offered only 4k for a 116610ln

Let me ask a few questions-

1) What is a fair price to pay for a used steel SS Black Submariner? These are supposedly older... but I also don't want like a 20 year old watch.
2) What is a fair price to pay for a used ceramic SS Black Submariner?
3) Does anyone get anything off the $8550 msrp?

Any other differences between 1 and 2? The ceramic appears to be a bit more glossy / shiny.

lots.

Case is different. Dial is different. Hands are different. Bezel is different. Bracelet is different. Crystal is different.

About the only things the same are the movement and crown.

The ceramic is a little more bulky and hefty.

How long is the waiting time? Some of the AD are not taking names for waitinglist

Essentially the case with all SS models Rolex, Patek, AP Except Rolex Milgause and explorer.

These guys all did a great job going into the market and buying back inventory... tightened the market just in time for demand picking up.

I am not sure what Rolex is doing but 2 out of 3 ADs in my radius lost their Rolex contracts recently due to their sales not meeting Rolex's sales standards. They both said last year that Rolex isn't sending them the inventory that they'd ordered and their cases were awfully light. Seems like they held back just so they could cancel their contracts.

if you havent spent a lot of money at the AD recently, you wont be getting on the list.

Anyone prefer buying Daytona from gray market dealers or online?

Waiting for years for Daytona SS #116500LN is too much !!!
Its not even special edition or once in a lifetime watch..

Nope I’m just waiting. Daytona is nice but it ain’t no Patek Nautilus. You start dropping 20k plus on a watch that’s SS. Go get urself a Patek.
If you really plan on spending $20k plus. Go to grey mkt and get yourself An AP Royal Oak 15202 or 15300 blue. If you can wait, put in for a white nautilus (shorter wait time).

I agree.
And yes, Patek is in a different league. Flawless watch.

I had recently a chance of trying of couple of watches ,along which mostly Rolex came in my hands .
I must say Rolex Sky Dweller 326933 Champagne Dial is my new favorite and when they say pics don't justice precisely applies to this dial .

Right now I'm waiting to see if I get my Pepsi GMT relatively early. Had the chance to grab an 116500LN (black face) for 13k when they first started coming out. Passed on it. Kick my self everyday for that.

Not missing out on the Pepsi I get the chance.

No affiliation but Bob's has used watches and very reputable.
https://www.bobswatches.com
There are others as well. But be careful as lots of fakes out there.

I bought mine used from an AD with warranty shortly after they came out and was happy to pay a premium over others as I knew it could be trusted. So, maybe check with them as well.

If you must get new, you can shop out of state to avoid taxes. But currently, many ADs are out of SS models.

Hope this helps.
