I gave the car its first Powerlock sealant treatment yesterday. Today I thought I'd look at the harness situation. The Schroth Quickfit Pros for the E82/E90 fit perfect. No changes required. Now I'm set for my first event in two weeks.
I included a couple pictures since it seems as though a few of you weren't familiar with the design of these and how they were made to mount. All mounts are factory mounts. While there appears to be debate over these from yourselves. I am comfortable with using them. If truth be known what pushed me over the edge was the video below. That video is at my home track, Road America, and the speed at which that happened was approximately 155. For reference the 1 series I had at the time of purchase would be at 135 to 140 on the same straight before I lift (I saw no sense in pushing harder). After watching it I convinced myself that the stock belts were not sufficient for my hobby. |

I owe Pyrat 2 a sincere apology. I commented earlier that the Schroth setup wasn't optimally safe enough for track use. After further review and research, I humbly agree with his assessment.

All's well...btw I was at the track a few weeks back and I just love the fact that I can concentrate on driving and not be expending energy holding myself in the seat.

Hi Pyrat
Resurrecting this thread with a question - how did you handle the lap belt outboard point? Did you bend the Schroth bracket to match the OEM and put the little plastic cover back on? Or did you leave the plastic cover off entirely? Trying to figure out how high to aim aesthetically. |

I wonder why Schroth hasn't yet created a version of Quickfit that clips onto the lower LATCH points instead of requiring us to unbolt and connect to the factory belt spot in the rear.
I guess maybe LATCH isn't designed to handle adult weight and that might be the reason? Are the BMW bolts just normal hex-head bolts, or do they use a triple-square or something else funky? (VAG uses triple-square on seatbelt bolts)

When you install a roll bar you should attach the seat to the roll bar. There was a Porsche at Lime Rock that lost it coming onto the straight away, did a 180 and slide along the wall. The D/S seat detached and his helmet/head contacted the bar and killed him. Seems his version of the story is a bit different than what I heard but the result is the same. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/fo...r/14131/page1/ Makes me wonder how BMW solved deals with the seat and bar in the GTS? "MOUNTING TO THE CAR The primary point of emphasis when mounting your seatbelt and racing seat inside your car is that the mounts should never connect directly to the car's frame or sheetmetal. Both the seatbelt and seat should mount to a "seat hoop" that is connected to the rollcage. This way, if the driver takes a side impact that is strong enough to move the 'cage, the seat and harness will move with it. The idea is to protect the driver from being injured by his or her own rollcage." http://www.hotrod.com/articles/ctrp-...harness-mount/ |

Since Schroth doesn't list the F87 M2 as a model they support, what model # did you eventually buy?
