shift linkage-what can be done?
Can anything be done to decrease the notchy-ness of the shift linkage? Its like two separate movements . Out of gear to neutral out of neutral into the next gear, its just not fluid. Ive been driving and tracking nothing but manual cars for over 50 years . I also have a GT4 which is the best shifting manual trans i have ever had. Ive had a few M3s over the years and the linkage was a little sloppy but not notchy .
Any solutions or ideas ? Short shift kits just usealy increase the notchy-ness. thanks carl |

I have a similar problem; hard to down shift (and occasionally up shift) to 3rd gear. It takes a lot of force to get it in to 3rd. Too much to be good for the linkage long term?

If you think this is notchy you should try the getrag in Mustangs. That would re-calibrate your feel. I like notchy. I know this does not answer your questions, sorry.

I don't think everyone universally finds this transmission notchy. To me the tranny and clutch are like butter. Easiest manual I've ever had. This ain't a "mans" transmission like a GT3. Didn't you know what you were buying?

It will loosen up a bit over time.

Sell GT4. problem solved.

I agree that the ease of the shift in the M2 in my opinion is very easy and there is very little resistance. It's a little notchy but that's it.. and it's enough to know for sure when you err and almost select the incorrect gate. |

My M2 was perfect. My M3, with supposedly the same trans, is notchy. Go figure.

I don't have any major notchy feeling going on. 1st to 2nd isn't exactly as smooth as all of the other gears but I suspect it is more that the feel doesn't live up to your Porsche rather than it being an issue.
