Judging by the cost of the M4 CS, the M2 CS may be sold for around $70k+. Unless the buyer plans to track the car extensively and modify the S55, I don't see how it would justify the increase of roughly $20k over the regular M2.
In terms of day to day driving, I don't think you can notice much of a difference in speed. It will sure feel faster and stronger, but actual 0-60 times will likely be only .1 or .2 faster. You can see that the M4 CS is rated as 3.9 sec according to BMW. I love the M2, but at that price range, it's hard to justify for a lot of people. |

If BMW is not putting a regular M3/M4 S55 engine or the other things that come standard on an M3/M4, there is no way that an MSRP over the base M3/M4 is justified. The more and more I read about the M2 CS, the more and more I think that this car should be priced close to the 60K mark or at least under the base M3/M4 price.
Porsche put a 911 engine in the GT4 along with the complete front suspension of the GT3 and a completely reworked rear suspension along with a plethora of changes and still charged 10K less than a base 911. This car was produced for just 1 year and was pretty limited as well. And no, porsche was not testing the waters with that car and hence did not price it conservatively. If the M2 CS cannot beat the current cayman S or the GT4 around a trarck, it would be a hard sell at above M3/M4 MSRP. Just my opinion. |

The CS therefore will feel much more sporty. Driving pleasure had always been about the feel, hadn't it? So the actual acceleration times over the vanilla version are not too relevant. Last edited by Karmic Man; 08-29-2017 at 01:29 AM.. |

They should not have detuned the S55 and just leave it at standard M3/M4 power level and then charge M3/M4 price. With the M2 CS being faster than the standard M3/M4 they could easily reach sales target even with an M3/M4 price tag. Those that want 4 door practicality will still buy the M3. Those that want a bigger and a more luxury sports coupe will still buy the M4. |

BMW is fully aware of the tuning potential of the S55. They know what they have built, and they are serving it in a fashion that doesn't step on the toes of the m4. Leaving the true potential on the table for those that want it.

Honestly at this point - given that this will no doubt be hard to get and marked up even higher and no doubt beyond my budget, then I really hope they go all out. Carbon roof, carbon hood, carbon trunk, m4 competition seats, S55 with a better exhaust note, well tuned suspension, lightweight battery, lightweight rims, wider tires, optional ceramics. I suspect we might get all of those except the carbon parts because those are new. Anything else they can cannibalize from existing parts would be fair game though. The real question is will they actually make the cooling and brakes perform well enough for the track drivers to not have to mod?

Having said that, BMW could definitely provide better brakes and cooling system than what is available on the base M2s. |

Agree on driving pleasure, but it'll also depend on the usage and the particular owner's daily route. For some that lives in the city, I don't think you can feel much of a difference driving in traffic. For those that plan to track the car extensively, it's worth it. But it'll depend on the MSRP and mark up. Isn't the M4 CS somewhere near $100k? If we go by a similar percentage increase, that is a huge jump even pre-mark up to justify unless one plans to track the car. |

We discussed this a while back. They look like M5 calipers. I'm wondering if a steal BBK will be offered as an option, leaving CCB option for M3/M4 CS, and wait to offer CCB on M2 GTS.

Front: 6 Pot Caliper (looks the same as in the AMGs) and bigger rotor with 4 drilled holes instead of 3 as in the vanilla M2. Rear The rears also look different - rotors seem to be bigger in diameter. Calipers look like the front 4 pots from the current M2. Last edited by Benef1cient; 08-29-2017 at 04:17 PM.. |
