Btw, it looks meaner than the M2 with those headlights and I feel like it is a car the pilot from Interstellar would drive! Last edited by M2GranCoupeOLEDlights; 01-13-2017 at 03:58 PM.. |

Sorry, the Audi is not an attractive car (to me). Tries to look all badass, but comes off looking a bit flamboyant instead.
It's also missing a pedal, which makes it fatally flawed, again, in my opinion. -scr |

I detect a hint of VW bug when looking at the side profile. And yes, a nonexistent clutch pedal disqualifies it from my cross-shopping list.

I think the TT RS will not be available to order in the U.S. to spec until about the time you could order an M2 CS based on what is happening in the U.K. We'll see but I would want to order that car the way I wanted.
I'm still on the fence between the 2. They both have pluses and minuses.

Not sure if you guys have seen this. Some guy on Car and Driver website named "Mh26" is saying TTRS and RS3 are not coming to US this year. Supposedly he went to his Audi dealer and they did not see any ordering details in the system.
His messages on C&D website were in December before x-mas. Kinda makes sense, since TTRS and RS3 do NOT show up on Audi's USA website under future vehicles. You would assume they would if they were coming out this summer. Plus no appearance at Detroit Auto Show. Mh26 could be right. |

Transverse front engine means it will always be nose-heavy. This engine deserves a better platform IMO.

Maybe Audi is think about the ttrs plus next year due to the M2cs threat. I was planning to trade my M2 for a ttrs until the M2cs is out.
They need to tune the ttrs like the golf r more aggressive. |

I think the TT-RS looks awesome, will be interesting to see what tweaks are introduced for the plus version.

^^^ thanks for the video - the TT-RS is looking and sounding very quick on that track. And the 718 IS over 2 seconds quicker...while the new car doesn't sound very good, there's no denying that it is very, very fast.

Best part is, another $5k or so and you have a 600+ HP TTRS.... nothing beats the VAG stuff for HP/$. Their motors have LOTS of tuning overhead in them. If I can't score a M2 by the time the RS3 is out here, I'll get one of those instead - much better comparison to the M2 vs. the TTRS (well, assuming I can't find a good deal on a used R8 by then)

My guess it's about balance, guys at Mazda (MX5) and Toyota/Subaru(GT86/BRZ) think like that. And it's nice to be faster in the rain, but to understand and control a balanced(rwd) car in slippery/wet condititions is WAY more satisfying than pedal to metal and power.Understeer.Power. Understeer. I'm not talking R8(R8 V10 plus bring it on great car) because that car has a totally different layout(mid engine awd) than stock Audi RS/TT RS cars off course. 5 cylinder sounds great nontheless. My guess: A few here would be just as fast or faster than that guy in that TT RS on that Magny Cours Club track in any stock M2. But hey it's a promotional video and they need airtime and clicks. I get the understeer argument - but I would think that even incremental improvements in the system would be beneficial, right?
I've had 6 RWD cars in a row, so maybe I would hate it - I don't know, but certainly plan to drive one. The interior of the car is just so nice - and that's where you spend the majority of the time. I think it looks and sounds awesome too - since getting the 981, sound has become a much more important factor to me. I was behind an M2 recently and sort of cringed when he was getting on the throttle - I know it's supposed to be better than the M3, but seems like that might be a low bar...the Audi 5 cylinder sounds awesome. And no fake noise needed...nice differentiating factor in my book. TT-RS plus vs. M2 CS would be a fun comparo - let's hope they make both.

I know about suspension setups too, no worries. Lift throttle oversteer on my ex Golfs and some 205GTI/309GTI was my, let's say, speciality some 20 years ago. But nowadays they make cars way too 'neutral understeery'. You see it with the TT RS. Not so much with M2. The way the new diff behaves on track(Assen Moto GP) in moist 2nd gear bends is surreal, it does not understeer when half on throttle, it just keeps pointing in. Incredible for a streetcar. As a daily many Audis are well built fast/luxurious semi sporty cars, but they will never reach the balanced //M level, suspension settings.
And even an M2 is tunable. Doh In Sportauto Issue 3/2017 the Laptime Performance 415HP M2 did a 1:09.7 at Hockenheim Short , that's 991 GT3 territory. (M2 stock 1:12.2) And competitor MTM with a 502HP(!) tuned RS3 did 1:11.5.... I know an RS3 is not a TT RS but I guess you know what I mean... Cheers Robin |
