Transferring order between states
Hi,
I have an M2 on order here in CA and it's due to start production in week 10. However, I'm going to move to Austin, Texas and wanted to take delivery there (to avoid paying taxes and shipping etc.). Has anyone managed to transfer a car (with production #) between dealerships? Thanks! |

I've read somewhere on here that you have to get an agreement with both dealerships approving this process. Good luck! |

There's almost 0% chance your current dealer will trade an M2 allocation with one in Austin. You'll only need to pay for shipping (which isn't a ton honestly) if you don't register the car in CA.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if I'd be able to take delivery without the vehicle being registered here in CA.
Thought I'd ask you guys before alarming the dealer |

BMW North Scottsdale said I could take delivery of my M2 at their location for a fee. It wasn't that bad ($500?). I would still have paid for it through BMW Las Vegas and used their allotment. In the end I figured I would save the money and use it toward a quick weekend in Vegas. You might ask if Austin BMW could do something similar?

Couple of things...
Performance Center Delivery might be an option - yes, heck of a ride home, but shorter than Calif (wait, do they have one of those in Cali now?). You can still buy your car at the California dealer and pay Texas taxes - in fact, that will be the law if you are living in Texas when your car gets delivered. I purchased my M2 in another state, went and picked it up and they did all the IL paperwork for me - they have to Good luck - and yes, there are worse problems in life

You can purchase your car from CA, but have it shipped to Texas (not drive it). Doing so, all you have to pay for is the car, a dealer doc fee (~$80) and a DMV transfer fee (~$65).

You should call speak with your sales advisor and have them involve corporate maybe even their VIP contact. They would still be the selling dealer. You'd have to pay Dealer in Houston a fee for prepping the car as someone said. You'd also have the hassle of getting a temp tag and doing all the paperwork and shit where you are yourself. CA dealer would do your deal no taxes and you'd pay in TX when you go to register the car.
