Priority 1 vs Priority 2
Anyone have any knowledge about Priority 1 - "customer sold" vs Priority 2 -"center own use" ?
My order is currently priority 2 but does have my name on it. I was concerned so I spoke with my CA and but he told everything is good to go. I guess it doesn't really matter if you are priority 1 or 2 as long as your name is on it. I've read a few sources that it affects shipping speeds but some sources say it actually doesn't. |

According to a sticky here, priority 1 cars should get top priority for processing after arriving at the destination port. Don't know whether the priority can change after entering production or if it even makes a significant difference in real life.
FWIW I've been priority 1 from the get-go. |

Priority 1, but even so it depends on how many cars are stuck at the port and also what repairs need to be made at the VPC. I have a car that's been stuck at the port since the 6th, and the provisional delivery date has been moved now from the 24th to the 31st.
I think at this point they're gathering parts together and building me a new car.

The order priorities mostly have to do with scheduling and perhaps have a bit of influence at the VPC's.
Priority 1 is "Customer sold" and the highest priority. Priority 2 is "Center use only" which means a dealer car that is meant to be used by the dealership. |

I just placed my order today, week 12 build.
My order is also priority 2. Called my CA, and he told me that w/ Priority 1, the lead time is about 10-14 days shorter, BUT you do not have the flexibility to switch to a different promotional / incentive program if there's a better one when you take delivery. I am sticking w/ priority 2. Last edited by bmw-st; 01-21-2017 at 10:59 PM.. |

Since there isn't a huge difference it's probably not worth the time. I will say it's very odd to me that dealers are using priority 2 on M2 orders. It makes me think there is some benefit to dealers that doesn't exist with priority 1 (my own M2 order is priority 1).

I just got some good news. I spoke with a CA I was working with before at another dealership and he told me no need to worry. Priority 1 and 2 cars are pushed at the same speed to the dealership. The reason is the dealership can only place so many orders on priority 1. Either way I'm good to go and it's nice to confirm with reliable sources.

When you take delivery you are able to use the current month's programming OR the month in which you "locked" rates (60 days prior for east coast, 90 days for west coast). This is all very well documented in the M3/4 purchasing forum.

One interesting thing to point out: Priority 1 cars (customer sold) got their rear differentials replaced before Priority 2 cars (center use).
Reason for this is that Priority 1 cars typically imply the customer is already made (or is actively making) some form of payment. |
