Personally I think the main benefit of Apple CarPlay is future proofing infotainment. It might be simple right now but changes will be made.

The ONLY thing I dislike so far is that I cannot use CW and CCW turning of the iDrive to zoom Apple Maps, instead you need to hit "click"the +/- or use the BMW maps. I did a bit of testing at lunch. When I started the car, I was using Apple Maps and playing music. I plugged in the phone and turned off the phone's BT and WiFi. Everything kept working. When I got to where I was going I clicked around the iDrive and then received a warning that CarPlay requires WiFi? I think what was happening and I need to test more is that the car just switched over to BMW Connect Drive and the USB? |

The main reason, I like it is b/c everything is on ONE device and I can use that device in work, at home, walking and now in the car. I don't have a phone, iPod, PIM (iPAQ), Garmin, etc. I also don't have to worry about updates after the warranty period, etc.

Ah! that's a major bummer. I hope that is something they change with future updates. Otherwise, does it work well, fast, etc despite no having a touch screen?

Apple Maps almost works like BMW Maps in my X5 where I have to put myself in modes and BMW Maps in the M2 works almost like Apple Maps on the iPhone. One thing I didn't like is if I pinch to zoom the BMW Maps in the M2 it puts me into interactive mode and I cannot figure out a simple way to back out of it. Now if BMW Maps in the M2 is on the split screen to the right pinch to zoom just zooms in and out without interactive mode and without having to switch to the small screen, e.g. if the radio is in the main split and BMW maps in the small split and the radio is selected and i pinch and zoom the map will zoom. I really need to read the iDrive instructions next |

has anyone else tried using the hotspot as yet? It seems as if AT&T is claiming way more data usage that what is actually being used.
