I just placed myself on the waiting list at my local dealer. Already anticipating that this is going to be a long wait.....but it'll be worth it.
The dealer told me that they just fulfilled their first order and I'm #3. |

With all the searching I have been doing. The most allocations I have seen for a dealership is 3. (1 HEA + 2 Customer allocations) If you are number 3 on the list, there is a slight chance you may get a MY2016. But there is an even greater chance you get a MY2017. Think about it like this... If the Dealership has 3 people on their "list" one of two things can happen. It all has to deal with the #1 person on their list. Person number one can take the HEA car. OR Person number one can NOT take the HEA car. If person number one does not take the HEA car there is a STRONG possibility that person #3 on the list will get a MY17. This is a bold statement I am about to make but I am pretty sure we all saw it coming. If you are number 4 or later on a dealerships list I am 99% sure you will be getting a MY17... HOWEVER! You still MIGHT see your car in the 2016 calendar year. Last edited by Driver37; 04-15-2016 at 03:07 PM.. Reason: Just Because |

I think you're looking at it wrong. It's just the opposite. They know how many cars they're getting and don't want their long list of prospects to walk for lack of patience. It's much easier to keep someone waiting if they don't know how long they have to wait. It's just like a restaurant. If you're quoted a 1.5 hour wait, you'll likely leave immediately. If you're quoted 45 mins, you might be willing to wait that long. Once 45 mins has elapsed, if you're told it'll be another 15 every 15 for the next 45, you'll likely stay because of the sunk cost fallacy. Also, during the wait, if you're offered a different car (seat at the bar), you might just take it. That opportunity is gone the moment you leave the dealership (restaurant).

Last week, when everyone started taking delivery and talking about allocations for May and June, I called the dealer and asked. They said that they did not receive a M2 allocation for May or June and we're trying to trade an M4 allocation for one of three M2 allocations in the NE. I just smiled to myself knowing that would not happen but really appreciated that they at least tried and that he was taking time to talk to me b/c he just so happened to be wrapping up delivery of the HEA at that moment.

Ironic because I was offered a white HEA but wanted black. Fortunately for me the car had not gone into production yet. They were able to change it to BSM for me. Car should be done with production on Monday. I would have taken AW though. Good luck with your search.

My dealer says they were told in late January they are getting 12 cars during the 2016 calendar year and took deposits only from the top 12 on the list and placed their orders in the order bank. I have been sitting in the bank patiently (not really) since. I have given up on the idea of getting a 2016, not a huge deal for me because I can change my own oil and brakes when the time comes. It's just the wait that grinds, I have been trying to get them to give me some information on how many allocations they have received so far but they seem hesitant to do so, I don't know if they don't want folks to bail (they have plenty on the list below me) or they don't want to be perceived as over promising. They have an excellent reputation and sell a ton of cars so I am pretty sure I am in good hands but still anxious. I am on several other lists but this is the only one that I have made it into the order bank for. I am not in a huge hurry because I have a work car I use for commute but we are going to buy a house later this year so I would like to pin down my M2 before we go into new construction mortgage lockdown so if worse comes to worse I will find a car somewhere and suck it up.

There was no way to tell what allocations would be given. We barely knew price point. But that's how they locked people into the car in my opinion... |

Is that even possible? Some say allocation are only handed out on a monthly bases and there's no way to know beyond that? |

I honestly don't know how a dealer can predict how many vehicles they will be receiving for an end of year prediction. I will speak with my sales manager on Monday but I think it's all BS. Especially with such a specialty vehicle like this one. BMW hands out certain allocations based of sales from previous months, region, and other specific criteria. So how does a dealer predict what the requirements will be and their quotas? |

Follows the same mold as the 1M which was based off of m and 1 series sales.
