Red interior ?

You are missing the entire point of this car then.
What's wrong with wanting a different color interior? The other M cars all have interior color choices. So are the other M cars "pointless"? Jumping on people every time they express a preference or a desire is getting old.

The whole "bare bones M2" chorus is hilarious to me. I bet if BMW took out the A/C or the Bluetooth or the HID/LED lights or ONLY offered it in black with black wheels....the "bare bones" crowd would suddenly be singing a different tune.

I agree. I had an 04 e46 M3 with LSB interior and that gave the car a unique character. Also leather, especially black leather gets incredibly hot in the AZ summer so a cloth option would have been nice. There is no reason anyone should be badgering those who want options because BMW has historically provided these amenities on their M cars. It was understandable with the 1M's short development cycle to reduce manufacturing costs by limiting exterior/ interior options, but that was 5 years ago and the M2 shouldn't have to cut the same corners.

So let's say you work as a salesman at BMW and a customer wants M2 with brown interior and you respond just swap the seats or go to an upholsterer. What do you think would be their response? Now try to do the same with MBenz, Audi or Lexus customer. GL

To be honest, I don't get the obsession with mirrors but the concern around seats does make some sense. Especially when compared to what the competition is doing. It isn't a big enough deal to be a problem and can be fixed, no doubt.

Ugh.

I am not satisfied with the fact that there are only, what, five colours (no proper red or blue) and only one interior trim and upholstery (black leather even). I have said this before already.

The M2 seats themselves, which are a carry-over from the F22/32, are totally fine. I have sat in the M3 and while those look cool, I was really missing the thigh extender. A feature that BMWs have had since the 70's or 80's.

Obviously I would like to have M mirrors, M this, M that,CF roof, more interior trims and whatever, and BMW should have implemented at least the damned mirrrors for the price.

However, the point is that many people on here don't have anything else to do than to b---- about the car 24/7. Yelling around like little kids who have lost their toy.

No bitching here. I am disappointed BMW is playing immature marketing games with this model as if it is a $250k model. Why offer all individual options on other models then? I was #2 to get one but not anymore with this configuration. They teased and pumped us up for over a year. This car doesn't deserve this interior. This is 21 century and it's time to grow up and offer options as everybody else! Moving on ...

If you are obsessed with details, luxuries and trinkets over everything else then... Perhaps the M2 is not the car for you.
But it will be for everybody else.

I think the idea is that you can either have something more fun to drive (M2) or something more upscale inside (MB) for similar pricing. There is no one car in the price range that is top in both categories.

Personally I'd rather have the more fun car but for those that prefer the interior looks and features by all means go get a MB.

I want to like this car... I really do. Especially with the tedious wait time, renderings, etc.. But it's just boring. Uninspiring if you will.

Pretty sure that's what these forums are for. Non-enthusiasts don't care about these details, so this is best place to vent and complain. Even if nothing comes of it, there's catharsis in knowing that you're not the only one who's upset.

Agreed that the complaints are running high, but perhaps that's because these really are non-trivial issues for some people.

I lightened up the shadows a bit on two of the images and it does wonders for the look of the car when you see some detail on the wheels too.

not really feeling it, it has to be the lack of CF roof, imo the white looks amazing on the other M's

On one hand I would love a CF roof as it has a bit of a "cool factor" but honestly I prefer a all white roof if we just talk about looks. Now my roof will have a black square on it, but the black-vinyl-on-the-roof-thing is not my personal favorite.

I can't wait to have some sound clip of the M2 with the MPE. How muchdo you think the MPE will be?

The MPE combined with the M black kidney grilles will be my M Performance options.

I'm counting on a cost about twice as much as the MPE for the M235i.
That retails for €895 here in Europe and the E92 M3 retails for €3025 but that is Inconel so should be more expensive. So around the €1500-2000 MSRP is my guess. The M3 is more upmarket so the M2 exhaust should be cheaper to appeal to the lower price of the car.

Other factor why the M2 M Performance Exhaust will be cheaper:
  • M3/M4 MPE = correct me if I'm mistaken, but it's titanium (also the base material used by Akrapovič);
  • M2 MPE = stainless steel (+ either CF tips or titanium tips) ("for cost reasons", said BMW representatives at SEMA 2015).
If you prefer titanium: FWIW, a UK agent of Akrapovič hinted to a release of the Akrapovič M2 exhaust before this Summer (see here).

I hope you are both right regarding the price.

Also, do you think it will be possible to order the M2 with the M Performance exhaust as an option right from the first deliveries?

Look here:

[...]

Q: How much weight will the M Performance Exhaust save over the factory setup?
A: No figures yet because still in preproduction form.
[From Jason: the pictured exhaust is still preproduction so the final production exhaust may look different. Also, the exhaust is constructed from stainless steel, so don't expect much weight savings over factory. The focus is on sound improvement (and aesthetics) with this exhaust. The choice of stainless steel was made with the M2's price segment in mind].

Q: Any power gains from the M Performance Exhaust?
A: Few gains should be expected just from changing axle back exhaust on a turbocharged BMW because 1) the main restrictions are in the two catalytic converters, which are retained with an axle-back exhaust and 2) no gains should be expected without remapping the ECU because the ECU is always correcting, so for example if the car loses backpressure, the ECU will reduce power.

Q: How do valves operate on the M Performance Exhaust?
A: Valves are solely driver-controlled using an included bluetooth remote (see photo of exhaust remote from a MINI, which the M2 remote will resemble). The exhaust valves do not automatically open or close at a certain RPM.
[From Jason: the remote may come in packaging which should fit in the cupholder to act conveniently as a remote holder].

[...]

Q: Does the M2 M Performance Exhaust use the same tips as the M3/M4 MPP exhaust?
A: Yes, they are interchangeable.

Q: When will the M2 parts be available?
A: The goal is for them to be available at launch, in April.
