I've driven a CLA45 for longer than most on a 'test drive' and never once did I feel as though the transmission was lacking in any real capacity; I don't exactly understand what some of these 'issues' are? It wasn't clunky, it never had an issue finding a gear, it snapped my neck back and the shifts were crisp. Furthermore, I've driven an M3 with DCT (at least 3-4+ times) and appreciated the speed, but it wasn't exactly anything that left me stunned.
I'm impressed that Merc is updating the CLA45 AMG, I know this is speaking to the A45, but I'm confident the CLA will see it as well. The M2 will truly have its work cut out for itself and I'm eager to see how it performs just as much as anyone else. The one thing both of these cars will share in common is there'll be a lot of hurt feelings when a $48k GT350 runs away from an M2 or CLA45 AMG and sounds great doing it.

In regard to the GT350, yes it is likely to run away in a straight line. But straight line speed has never been what the ///M moniker is all about, even though it seems to garner a lot of attention. Each car in this (or any) segment will have pluses and minuses, depending on the manufacturer in question. BMWs typically have more refinement and better handling in comparison to their American counterparts - even as folks like Ford and Chevy catch up in those areas. Just my $.02

The GT350 is far from a straight line only car; the only area I'm actually concerned about on that car is the interior, even with the factory optioned Recaros. I'm also fairly familiar with BMWs as well, miss owning one now and then, but we'll see. Here's my old ZHP and a shots of my STi when I had it all built, which I've now returned close to stock, so I can just daily it in peace.

As far as the GT350. I think a few of us have thought about that car for a split second for sure. It's just not for me though. Having said that, if I had to pick a Ford, the Focus RS is a much more interesting proposition for me. |

Taste is subjective, but I think the performance offering of the GT350 will really shake up the enthusiast world. I've never had even the slightest interest in any American car brand offering until the GT350, but I think it'd take a lot to get me in to one. Haha, ah the RS! I'd still take an STi over one, but then again you'd assume I'm biased.

I have 0 doubt that the GT350 will revolutionize the sport car segment just like the C7 Vette did. It's amazing how much performance for relatively small bucks. I guess for me personally, now that I daily drive an E36 M3 with a measly 240hp, I'm just not all too interested in crazy performance. That's why I think M2 will be perfect for what I want. 6MT, more than enough HP + TQ, compact --> Perfection.

You're right. I think the M2's strength will a balance of power and handling, with no one area really overshadowing the other. Any mods on your e92 M3?

[QUOTE=technik330;18133833]It was an e92 M3, every single time I drove one with DCT. I haven't driven an F8x so I can't speak to the DCT there, but again, I never found DCT to be anything more than a glorified auto haha - which I know it's not.

Drove these back to back with an auto M235i and the ZF is a masterpiece vs this box. Maybe they improved it since then, but in July last year it was indescribably bad. |

No go drive any 2014 PDK Porsche, VW's or GTR. It's like comparing a machine gun to a revolver. Other cars you click it shift. The benz more like a 2009 GTR but a little smoother. I don't like the DCT on the bimmers also but its' better than benz which is not saying much.
