You guys are missing the point. Should you want to, BMW has to make sure they can give you Individual options and not leave money on the table...
Donington grey is HOT. |

Scott, has BMW changed their mind on Donington? Thought it was going to be Mineral Gray. Donington would be a far better choice seeing as the palette will be extremely limited.

I'm sorry but when the comparison was made between "wanting" or "having" a 2 series active tourer done in indi vs. doing the same on an M2 which is the type of car a person would want to individualize is crazy.
I think a more applicable comparison would be lack of indi for the i8. you can't tell me that it wouldn't be checked every time (>75%) on those cars. I'm pretty sure we are getting DG as an option, and LBB. I just hope we get some other options besides 3 other shades of silver/grey, 2 blacks, 2 whites...that's almost 8 colors already. |

The other cars in the plant, that do have painted sheet metal, such as the X1, active tourer and 2 series do go through the standard process. But like I said, the demand must be pretty dang low for these cars. Hope that makes a bit more sense.

what would the response be to an average consumer that walks through the door asking for his/her i8 to be painted in a color other than those that are standard? I bet I know what it would be... regarding the how many people want the indi? I don't really care anymore, they are going to do what they want. they aren't targeting me as a customer so if I don't like it I can take my money elsewhere. I can quantify "a lot" just about as well as you can a "drop in the bucket". it would be an automatic choice I am sure for me but again, it is what it is |

http://www.compositesworld.com/artic...i3-production- I agree with you that BMW has probably decided that there just won't be enough demand for individual paint at the Leipzig plant. They would probably have to spend a substantial amount of money to upgrade there paint shop to do it and they just won't get enough individual orders, even with the i8 being made there. |

Here's what I meant by "regular" paint process. The i3 and i8 obviously wouldn't have to go through the e-coat process in those dip tanks. So maybe they have a separate line just for the i cars' body panels?

It looks great in pictures and I can't wait to see it in person. I think it looks like a combination of Pure Metallic Silver and Silver Gray, which happen to be two of my favorite BMW paint colors!

The M2 hallmark color should be an 'uncommon' one, something that stands out instead of blending in with the rest, hence a bright color.
That's why launching the 1M in Valencia Orange Metallic was a pretty smart move: car enthusiasts recognize the car straightaway, while others notice that it ain't no 'regular' car.

In Europe it is, on the hatchbacks. It's also available on the 228i now (non Msport only though, which is dumb).
