are you a shill? Is that your website? First post on the forums and you post this URL
That "article" provides 0 empirical evidence to support the rankings of any of those oils. It's more or less a reading of the labels and marketing of each of those oils. No technical specs, empirical values...nothing. Nothing of value. It's quite well known that the NOACK rating of BMW oil is terrible and borders on the upper limit of the acceptable percentage. It's a "suitable" oil but no where near the best oil for our cars. Last edited by nioh_lbbm2; 04-06-2020 at 04:44 AM.. |

There are testers on youtube that have pitted up a bunch of oils against one another and observed their protection against bearing wear. It's kind of a long explanation but if you watch the videos you'll understand.
But based on what I have seen I probably will be getting LL01 certified liquid molly 5W40 (can't remember how to spell it).

here it is:
This is one of the testers I watched. Also note I heard the European version of class 3 oils like liquid molly differ in adative packages from the NA versions which means the NA oils are not as good. I have no idea if this is a legitimate claim so take it as a grain of salt. The claim also said class 5 oil like ams oil was better.

Shell helix ultra ect c3 5w30 European version is the exact same as the new 5w30 from bmw (twin power turbo) and the oil is fantastic, has a NOAK if less than 7, (6.2 in independent testing) has a high viscosity of a comparable oil in the 5w40 region, has superb results on engine wear (check piotr tester videos on YouTube @100 degrees Celsius which for me is a great example of the normal temperatures this car produces on the road) I believe shell helix is Pennzoil platinum across the border (US) but for UK the best oil for your car all year round for me would be bmw tpt 5w30

For the USA:
Penzoil Euro Platinum 5-40, BMW LL-01 I think the hydraulic lifters in my S55 are quieter with this oil than the stock 0-30. https://www.amazon.com/Pennzoil-5500...latinum&sr=8-3 |

If any of the engine oil is getting to the injectors of your car, there may be some issues you need to attend to...

It's the hydraulic lifters that make the clicking noise usually. The overall mechanical noises coming from the engine are quieter as well. I'm sure there are some that are on the fence about that. Even my old beater's engine is quieter when I use good synthetic oil.

My 3yr free service is over and I plan to change my oil more frequent than their recommended 10k interval. I'm leaning towards 5kish to change.
BMW has been using their Penzoil 5-30 or 0-30 I believe for their oil change maintenance, but now I plan to use the Penzoil Platinum euro 5-40 or the REDLINE 5W30 especially living in Vegas. Last edited by D CHOI; 05-19-2020 at 06:39 PM.. |

Recently did an oil change at a local performance shop. Used Motul 8100 Xcess 5W40.
M2 LCI has been running great. Only thing I’ve noticed is that the oil temp runs higher than with the oil that BMW was using. |

Interesting, that shouldn't be happening. Are you driving more aggressively/any new mods, and how are ambient temps before and after?

Any love for miller's nanodrive on here?
Tuner for my previous car recommended it so I had it put in. It's supposed to lower friction more than normal oil. Engine certainly was eager to rev but it was custom mapped. |

Then in sport and sports+ it’ll usually run cooler than 250. From what I understand 200-250 F is optimal temp for the OGM2...correct? |

Yes around that temp range is ok for the n55. 270°F is when power is being cut in a silent limp mode.

Just wanted to chime in on this thread for those that didn't note this in my N55 Extreme Engine Cooling thread in the Engine section of the forum.
When I started running Motul 300V (5W-40 for the street, 10W-40 for hot summer track days), I noticed my oil temps running 15-20F cooler in similar driving modes and circumstances vs OEM oil. I also didn't have to add any oil between changes. This was happening with the OEM oil as soon as I started running an E30 mix & tune, while the 300V held up great. The stuff isn't cheap and it's not a long life oil, so you're supposed to change every 3-5K miles, but it works damn good for the track and has way better high temp protection. |
