One of the reasons I chose an 18 LCI over a 16 or 17 was the gauges. I was worried about the visibility issues of the 16-17 gauges in the sun given that I live in AZ. I also liked that the non exec LCI cars still have a backup camera, I didn't want the bumper sensors that the exec cars have. LED lights, temp guage, etc, are a bonus.

I am probably in a minority here but I prefer everything on the pre lci including the dash layout(not lopsided with a carbon panel to nowhere, no fake plastic stitching), classic dials (in future when everyone has lcd this will be a killer feature), the rear light clusters and the classic daytime running light roundrels. Each to his own though!
Happy days whatever you decide but for me MT and the sunroof is a must. I open mine everyday even in the rain so I get to hear my MPE! |

I concur. When buying used, I always try to get low mileage cars. It's no guarantee of anything, but it's a big factor. As you probably have learned, there is no difference in how the cars drive, so it's features and looks. I guess it depends too on how much of a financial stretch it is for you, how long you intend to keep it, how many miles you will put on it (i.e. if the CPO has any value), etc. Since I already have an LCI, getting the '17 might feel like a step back. If I were shopping for the car now as my first M2, not having this prejudice, I'd probably go for the '17 because of the lower miles. Assuming, as stated, everything else is equal (options, colors, etc.). And good choice on that 6-spd manual.

Same opinion here! I prefer the older pre LCI instruments cluster and headlights. This is why I chose a 2017 versus 2018 model last year when I got to buy my M2. I had also the option to wait a few months and get a M2C but I REALLY wanted the S55 sound, much more than the slightly improved performances of the newer motor.
I am glad to be part of a minority for the first time of my life |

I've seen one person retrofit the Euro adaptive LEDs (in order to have fully functional VLD/GFHB I would assume). If I had an extra $5g's laying around I'd follow suit: |

i like the analog style gauges better then the digital one. I also plan on keeping the m2 for a long time and i have no confidence in german electronics...I just hate the fact BMW didn't use white leds behind the gauges independent of the ambient sensor. My 2004 civic had white led lights that were on all the time and adjustable via dimmer. i also didn't want the sun roof to save on weight.
