I don't mind a good DCT but the advantages it brings come at the cost of reduced driver involvement, so it's not all good news. For me, cars like this are about fun and being involved in the driving rather than lap times or being the fastest. It's a street car after all.
Given all that and also the high costs (3.900€ here, which is ~$4.500), it's an easy decision for me to go for the manual. YMMV. |

It's simple, if you want to be fast, go with the DCT. If you want to think you are fast, go with the manual.
I grew up on manuals, but believe most DCTs are much better for performance driving. If they weren't, most race cars would be manual, not semi-automatics. |

I think a vote option of 4 options might reveals lot:-
1 DD and manual 2 Play car and manual 3 DD and DCT 4 Play car and DCT I'd be #1. Lots will be #2 Racers #4 maybe And do it alone 1 car possibly #3 which was my M4.

Say what you want about the emotional experience, but the days when a manual transmission produced better performance numbers than an automatic alternative are over.

I'd be number 3. My current daily is an 00 Boxster with a 5spd. Also have an e30 that I'm building up into a track car. I'll be trading in the Boxster but if I ever have the urge to row my own gears I'll pull out the e30. Also... The fiancé said I should go DCT so she will feel comfortable driving the car if she wants. Love got me on that one... : |

This will be my secondary vehicle so I am going with a 6 speed manual and that's one major reason I am buying the M2 because manual transmission is offered.

Say what you want about the couple tenths of a second you'll shave off to 60, but the days when an automatic transmission produce a better emotional and engaging experience have yet to happen.

Anyone here comment on the throw with the manual tranny in say, the M4?
I this video, it looks like a damn long throw! I'm keen on a short, tight throw. This video makes it the throw look huge! Last edited by ConR; 12-27-2015 at 09:29 PM.. |

You don't need to "double clutch" with modern MT's like you use to in the older MT's or some trucks... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_clutch_(technique)

I'm torn on the choice for the M2. I love the DCT in my M4, but the 6MT feels like the proper choice for an M2 that is going to be a driver engagement car. Last edited by LoCore; 01-01-2016 at 10:58 AM.. |

Double clutching saves synchro wear... Heel toe is used by most on the street just to save clutch wear (on the track, it is used so as not to upset the car mid corner or under threshold braking)... Anyway, just making the point that both techniques are employed, on the street, to reduce component wear...so one isn't necessarily archaic while the other acceptable.

Manual transmission auto blip?
Does anyone know if the manual version will have auto blip when downshifting like on the M4?
