I think the cars are becoming too advance for techs..

The electronics in these cars seem to be beyond the older techs. Only one indy shop with a younger guy seems to know anything about the electronics in the car.

On month 2 of trying to get my bluetooth finished up.. Almost there but its pretty annoying when no one will touch your car.

Not the properly trained BMW techs. If you're worried about it go drive a Chevrolet Sonic. (Not to be a smart ass)

Actually the opposite is true. It is just when unproven software is released is when all hell breaks loose. OBDII now makes it much more precise to locate a problem.
When someone says tech to me I think of these
engine
transmission
brakes
suspension
and on down the list to the electronic side of the house where no one can correct issues when poorly written and untested software is released.

I would support the theory that techs cannot maintain the electronic interface which is comprised of hardware-firmware-software without extensive simulation by the manufacturer or their supplier...

Techs where I bought my car are idiots. I was told my my start up rattle was the exhaust valve on my e90 328i. Guess no one told them the 328 doesnt have that.
Instead of unplugging my pbx, the just used side cutters and cut the wires. On both the pbx side AND the oem bmw harness. They tried to bill me 3 extra hours to repair the wire harness.
Then the retard SA quoted me 2100$ for two new rear tires with alignment.

Needless to say, I won't use Brian Jessel in vancouver anymore.

Sounds like y'all are using knuckle dragging technicians. In my the independent world, its keep up or die. We keep up, I assure you

Dealers hire anyone, seriously. Expensive Knuckle draggers

I took my E90 to a local indy and he did a fantastic job with my exhaust and evap leak. It's keep up or go home to a lot of those guys.

To be fair, a Bluetooth retrofit isn't exactly a common place procedure. Not even BMW NA has a procedure in place, hence why dealers will look at you crazy if you ask about something like that.

You not only need the proper hardware and software, but also someone who is an enthusiast and has researched how to do such retrofits. There is no instruction or service manual for things like this. A lot of this coding and retrofit knowledge has been found through trial and error or from engineers within BMW that do the programming of these modules.

Normal repairs will be no problem for any tech or shop with proper modern day equipment that can interface with the car's computers (eg Autologic or similar).

I disagree as BMW released an official retrofit with official instructions.. Also I wouldn't even call mine a retrofit as all that needed to be done was have VO changed + mic wires switched.. or mic wire ran.

I agree because a Ford tech worked on my Nissan on-the-side (charged me $130 for what the dealer wanted $1600 for). He told me if you rolled a F250 turbodiesel off of a flatbed and told me it won't start, there's nothing I could do for you if a) I'm not at the dealership i.e. equipment b) I don't have remote support from Ford

Don't think that just because you have a $287 BT tool there's nothing you can't do, it's far from the truth.

You should enroll in a automotive school and then you could study and be the best BMW tech in the world. P.S. buy a bluetooth earpiece and get over yourself.

Why do I need to drop 40k on a school when I have access to all of that for free???

Two months and the bluetooth still being a work in progress, i understand why no one will touch it, most likely close to being a brick.

What? One of the forum members codded it for me and it works.. You can't brick something by changing VO's and you can always restore factory settings by saving the original profile.. Oh and close to being a brick??? There is soft brick and hard brick not close to being a brick.

Just have to make a cable and run it now.

I said BMW NA, hence why dealers here think you're high. BMW Europe actually supports some retrofits and has official instructions for techs on how to perform it. BMW NA dealers won't touch that.
