What is the expected life for the coolant hose to expansion tank 50,000 miles?
My other -F30- is 7 yr old still going at 60k

I'm not sure what source I used but the service interval notes in my phone says to change it at 50k miles. I'm at 51k & literally just ordered the hose minutes ago to change preventatively

I’d replace that expansion hose no doubt

My car is garaged so I open my hood every time I pull in

The reason behind this is to let the hot air out of the engine compartment

It increases the life of the rubber and plastic and also heats the garage at the same time

I do this exact thing. I've been told by others that it doesn't do any good because of the quality of the plastics, but physics is physics, so I'll continue to do it as long as I own the car.

I have removed the front hood seal on my car that lets a little bit of air in when you’re moving

It actually helps because the turbo puts off a lot of heat and letting that heat out will help stop cooking the plastics


Also, after owning a high strung supercharged car, I’ve learned that opening the hood will allow you to spot concerns before it’s an issue that you have to deal with on the side of the road

As an interesting note, when I had my 987.2 Cayman S, it would kick on the radiator fans high if I garaged it and shut the garage door. I remember hearing a noise outside and the garage was so hot because of all the heat the fans were pushing out from the engine compartment. I now leave the garage door open for a bit after I park the car if it is convenient to keep some airflow around the car.

Might affect aerodynamics slightly too
Gas mileage for an example,I’d say probably 2 miles per gallon or more same as running a front license plate

Yeah, I always leave my garage cracked just a little bit for the same reason

I might replace the entire expansion tank eventually after watching a friends go on his hard worn M235i with 115k .

Depends on the climate, but if it's not a garaged car, probably 6-7yrs and 60-80k mi.

If it's a garaged car probably 9-10yrs, and 100-120k mi.

My garaged 328d (same coolant tank/line as N55) is at 105k and 8yrs without signs of becoming dry/brittle.

At least your proactive by keeping an eye on it just incase…
