Help - Buying an M2
Hi Guys. I'm a BMW Noob here and hope you can help me out
I am currently looking to purchase a 2018 M2 LCI version that has about 2 years + 8 months warranty left. Is it crucial to get a pre-purchase inspection done? The owner is a little uneasy when I mentioned that I wanted to get it checked at some BMW specialist. But he didn't mind if i were to go back to the dealership instead since he feels at ease to know that the warranty will still be intact. Should I still insist to get it done at a third party workshop? Or should I walk away? I could be wrong but I dont think he's trying to hide anything about the car if he is cool with bringing it back to the dealership for a check. But just wondering what do you think guys? Thanks alot! |

Most dealerships are capable of doing a pre-purchase inspection. It is similar to a CPO inspection that they do all the time.
I would just take it to the dealership. |

Most dealerships won’t look for things like previous paint/body damage, and a lot of that never ends up on a carfax. You can buy a paint meter yourself and check things if you are concerned.

I dont understand the owners perspective that a PPI at an indy shop somehow voids the warranty.
I had a potential buyer of my F30 ask for a PPI at the dealer. I had no issues, and they seemed to do a thorough job. They also recommended the in cabin filter partition walls be cleaned for $1000…so just expect some kind of bullshit service upsell to be included. In any event you are the buyer willing to spend a lot of money, so take it to who you trust most for inspection. If the seller doesn't like it, find another seller. If the dealer works for ya, then so be it. Good luck and hope the purchase works out for ya!

I would take it to a place that i trust and like, not the seller. Maybe he can come along for the ride to feel comfortable that his baby is not being abused.

Personally I would not allow a potential buyer to take my car anywhere. Some shops haven't a clue about BMWs. They can damage the car by just lifting it up on the racks.
