Defect on my seat!! picked up @ PCD today
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com This is a disappointment for my passenger seat. The staff @ PCD don't know what caused it, don't know how it happened. Told me need to deal with the dealership service department after they tried to clean it. Anyone had this issue? Looks like the black layer is scratched away. I think I would request a seat replacement instead of repair. Would BMW approve this while I bring the car for service? Any input will help…

Sorry to see this happened to you.
Touch base with the person who sold you the car and also get friendly with your service advisor. They shouldn't have a problem remediating it for you, but not sure that it warrants a full seat replacement.

Sorry to see. It looks like that spot was gauged - clothing, a tool, etc. I doubt BMW will authorize a seat replacement, but you can certainly argue for a new upper seat cover. Of course, that won't be a factory installation, so consider your choice carefully.
GL and more importantly, welcome!

Dealership should remedy, maybe not to the level you expect…i.e. they'll use a sharpie

I would live with it. I don't begrudge anyone going to war to get a new seat etc, me, I would just move on. it wouldn't be worth the hassle it will take to get them to fix it.

I hear you...it hurts a bit to see it; esp. on your baby. But if the leather is not torn and more a surface imperfection, I wouldnt worry too much about it. For sure talk to SA and see what best they could do.. be nice and they may work something out for you (even throw an accessory for free to patch things up)

Agreed - while I have a crazy level of OCD and expect all of my high end product purchases to be absolutely perfect... this sounds like one that the best decision is probably just to live with it. I personally wouldn't feel great about my dealership tearing off that seat cover and installing a new one - would guarantee they'd screw something else up in the process, whether scratching some other trim while doing it or not seating the seat cover perfectly etc.

That does look like a seat color mfring defect because its very similar in color to the accent color between the holes in the seat perferations. I'd be at the dealer I purchased from having them address it. I think it devaules the car.

No one at dealership is at fault. They did not deliver the car, but they should go to bat for you. Open the case with BMW Customer Relations, and also contact your CA so the dealer and regional rep can also assist.

That's a given assumption (unless of course it was caused by damage to the seat from a button/pants pocket zipper or something from a dealer employee - small chances tho). As you said, the sales person you purchase the car from is most likely to go to bat for you in getting it resolved.
I have a similar case where the hood paint has this off colored circle that was present on day one of purchase. My sales guy from the dealer I purchased from is currently going to bat for me on that one to get the paint correction done. Last edited by .Slug; 09-02-2021 at 04:13 PM.. |

The defect is irritating for sure, but very minor. I personally wouldn't wage a fight over it. As someone else said, ask them to fix it. They'll do that w/ a sharpie or something similar, perhaps something made for such a repair. It will be fine. Many many years ago, I slopped dry gas on a brand new fairly pricey leather jacket. What a mess. The wife used shoe polish and something that escapes me to seal it. Looked like new and never rubbed off. Save the fight and good will for something that really means something.

I would definitely point it out and have them fix it.
Reminds me of when we had recently bought a new dining set…a friend was visiting and he had one of those stupid wallet chain things (never understood the appeal)…scratched and gouged the finish on the seat pretty badly. |

Easy fix. Bmw will replace the cover. I can swap that piece in less than an hour.

Thanks for all your reply. Just got home after 2 days drive. 880 miles on the car now.
First, the dealer or SA shouldn't at fault, since I got it from the PCD. Second, I got the car from out of state dealer (OH). And I live in Philly. So I don't think it's fair to ask the dealer to compensate me. Since they didn't touch the car. Third, I think it's damaged while the car in the PCD. Since I don't think it can pass QC in Germany. Now the tricky part is, if I pick up the car from a dealer, then I think that dealer should compensate me for the damage. But since I picked up at PCD, it's not a dealership, maybe what you guys suggested, open a case with BMW relation. Since PCD should be owned by BMW.
