Ticking noise when not running

Hi everyone

Hoping the cause of this is something obvious I'm missing.

When I open my car door, this ticking / clicking noise starts and runs continuously for a couple of minutes. The car is completely cold, has been sitting there for over a day.

Seems like some electric motor trying to do something.

Any ideas?

Just an update on this for anyone who stumbles across this post
I recorded videos of the noise (including my licence plate to prove it's my car) and provided these to the dealer, and left the car with them overnight.

Fortunately it made the noise for them first thing in the morning (about a 25% chance of this happening) and combined with the video they were satisfied it's the Valvetronic motor and replaced it under warranty with no questions asked. Also they had the parts in the country so didn't have to order from overseas.

Have only had it back a day but so far so good.

Yes this is your valvetronic motor failing. I had the exact same issue and had it replaced under warranty, but mine was bad enough that they replaced the motor and the eccentric shaft.

If yours is not as bad they'll just do the motor and it will solve it.

In rarer instances it will require a new eccentric shaft as well.

In extreme cases you'll need a new cylinder head.

8,000 km, but started the day I brought it home. It did not get progressively worse by the time I had it repaired though.

On some cars it happens literally when brand new (which was what occured in my case) and on same cars it happens at high mileage.

Bought the car at 26000kms and noticed the issue at about 28000kms. I had just ticked over 30k when it was fixed.
