Here's a set that's almost identical to the OP. Have them on my MPE.

An old thread but this might be of interest to anyone with the chinese copy MPE exhaust tips.
I first installed a set of these (gloss cf/brushed stainless steel) over 6yrs ago then maybe 12mths on the heat from track days & long spirited drives caused the exhaust tip gloss clear coat to dull then separate/peel, by around yr 3 they looked pretty awful. Before deciding on whether to get another set (accepting they will also end up the same) or try something different I thought I'd try re-finishing what I had. I removed all the clear coat using a paint scraper (the type you pull), paint stripper didn't seem to help, took a bit of effort and time. Rather than re-coat and have to repeat everything again I tried just finishing off with sandpaper using 400wet/dry for the final finish (was the finest I had on hand). More than 12months on and the sanded matt finish has not changed despite a few tracks days and several long country trips (with spirited runs of full-on hard driving for 80-160km at a time). I think the matt finish works with the oem diffuser and don't see any need to re-apply clear coat, a win I think! Ignore the dirty s/steel & octane booster residue Last edited by David.m; 05-21-2024 at 06:15 PM.. |
