December 13
Day starts off with heavy fog and a morning run that has me thinking northeast Florida is the spot. $600k for a 3/3 townhome across from the beach? What the literal f***?
Set off around 11 am. Today’s drive is across the panhandle of Florida to the “redneck riviera,” with the destination being Destin. I’ve seen so many Destin house hunting shows I figured I had to check it out. If you’ve noticed, I’m always exploring the real estate. I get that from my father, who was in the commercial real estate game and who drug us all over on road trips to see the real estate. Anyway, at Tallahassee I veered off I10 for Florida State Route 20. This was probably the best decision of the trip. I can’t even describe this section of Florida. Ever so gently sloping rolling terrain, with a mix of the southern pines and almost a Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez oak county infusion, except with about half the woodiness of the Northeast. Did that make sense? In any event, it was incredible. Two lane road, windows down, music up, about 63 degrees…just sensational.
Pulled into Destin around 4 pm, took in the white sand beach and went for a dip in the Gulf.
