Great question and thanks for your interest. With the e9x M3 it's was about 10lbs in savings. Since the F87 has not been made/weighed yet I couldn't really answer this for certain.
I hear you on one thing and your point is valid. It's not for everyone because of the "flash" factor. While the cost of the CF hood is similar, install cost is not especially if you DIY the CF DS, which I did and will for my M2C.
