Looks really like BMW wanted to show that they can offer serious aftermarket parts but does it that complicated to hold you off from actually installing them...likely in 2 years you will see all those as options on order for the next M2
if there is any reason... it's likely to simply avoid crashing a car and the federalization process... which is quite $PENDY..

the E36 M3 LTW for the US market came with the rear wing and front splitter and some other items in the trunk... they were not allowed to be installed on the car as they were not federalized.

My personal opinion with the M2 comp performance parts catalog is that BMW is selling the M performance parts as " aftermarket parts " in order to amortize the parts expense over as many units as possible.. Let's say they make 5000 of every part in the initial production run... and likely there will be a new model that undergoes federalization and is the entire full meal deal of parts installed at the factory .

If the special model has a limited run of say.. 1000 cars... then that means that they have 1000 of the original 5000 parts run committed for... The cost per part to produce 5000 parts will be cheaper per part than making 1000 parts for the special model alone, allowing the special model to have a slightly lower cost associated with producing it.

Speaking of what you mentioned @Daaan ...I was at a track event and a local dealer declined to do a track ALIGNMENT for a customer.
No parts needed at all... just a request to set the car up with particular alignment specs...
