The X3, X4, X5, X6 M cars are all made in the United States, it's not that far-fetched that the next entry-level M car will be built in Mexico.
We see an M car as something special, to BMW AG, it's just another commodity and if they can save a buck producing it, they most certainly will.
There is no "heritage", it's all moving units and protecting their bottom line, regardless of what the marketing material otherwise colorfully states.
Don't get me wrong, there is not immoral for a company to move its production to a place where it will create higher profits - it is actually logical to do so. Doesn't mean we have to like it.
