I spoke to some car/wheels thieves, since then and they not are a fan of wheel locks. It can take too long to remove, without drawing attention. So that was ringing endorsement for lockable studs, despite the shortcomings I've had with them, all of which stemmed from a dealer or local tire shop using an impact gun, to over-tighten them.
It's obviously your call but I strongly suggest you try to make them work. You might live a good neighborhood but the thieves are mobil and they love shopping around, in nice, quiet, residential locations. |
Yeah, I saw that sight on a nice e36 M3 in my (supposedly) secure parking lot in philly. My honda at the time, while new, was vandalized with glass broken and stuff stolen. My wheels however were spared, maybe because of the locks (or maybe because no one gives a shit).
Did your buddies say that they know that the lock keys are usually in the vehicle? I mean all it takes is a second to break the window and find the key, no?
You're right, no harm keeping on. While my car is garaged, it is outside when I leave the house. And the M wheels are desirable, so makes sense to keep on.
Yesterday I moved the box of lugs and keys to the glove box. Time to move it back to the trunk....
