Not exactly the same but in the UK, Porsche dealers have been playing silly games with customers for a long time now. Deposits can be left but allocations are distributed according to how much $$ the customer drops at the dealership each year, etc. Just look at the GT4.
Not condoning the behaviour, but BMW dealers here seem to have more integrity than their Porsche counterparts.
