The false alert when you were backing up maybe didn't have anything to do with the garage door - instead, reaching for the button on the bottom of the mirror might have put your hand into range of the rear laser sensor. The next time you drive your M2, try changing the volume control or waving your hand an inch or so from the display side of the V1 to see if the laser alert goes off.
Today, every time I got a legit alert and punched the volume control to mute it, the laser warning went off. It didn't happen once after I taped over the Rear Laser Sensor.
