iDrive says oil change is due next month(!) 2/2019 or 6800 miles. Date wise it's not even 6 months. Curious if anyone run into something similar?

I doubt the dealer will do it so soon and it's really not needed, I won't even bother to call probably.

I'm not sure if there's a limit how many oil changes you get while on warranty?

Its normal, it happened to me, I did break in service at 2000km in august and got a idrive warning for service in November at around 3800km.

This is because the car was built in November 2017 so the 1 year was up and they did it on warranty wich I was pretty happy right before storing the car for winter after 2 track events
