I'm not an aero engineer and I'm sure it's not this simple but but perhaps the downforce is roughly equivalent to the weight removed from the rear of the car? Seems they didn't add any aero on the front, so the rear wing is not exceeding the point where front aero would be necessary?

That's definitely a great thought! With the m2 in general it's a lot easier to pull weight out of the rear. My lithium battery alone saved 40lbs.
