I can list a few companies off the top of my head that I know use the same spring rates for F8X and F87 platforms.

Yeah, and those companies are lazy. Even the big guys like Bilstein are. For example on the F2x/F3x line they use the same dampers and same spring rates no matter if you have a lightweight 4cyl 2-series or a heavy 6cyl 4-series vert. Garbage optimization.

If you've ever had the chance to see what rates and ride frequencies BMW specs for these cars from the factory across platforms you'd understand why having the same rate on both is silly. I know this isn't common knowledge, but it sure is enlightening.
