This is misinformation.

The reason was the N55 wasn’t Euro 6d-temp compliant (as the S55 wasn’t) and was offered only on one model. BMW made the call to invest in making one engine E6d-temp compliant and as the S55 was also fitted on the M4 / M3 CS / M4 CS, it made more sense to develop this engine and put it on the M2, too.
