Varies by year. I'm in the DC area and we'll usually get some snow. I think the max we had this season was about 3 inches with one storm. There was a dusting earlier. Year before, we had the blizzard and super cold temps.
I'm like you, so I invested in a dedicated winter set just for the piece of mind. I think you could get by with all seasons, but I'd rather be safer.
