I would try to find something that isn't microfiber. Most microfiber towels can cause microscratches on soft surfaces. The towels are finely-split plastics and the micro-split ends can be hard/sharp on cheaper towels or become that way after too much heat in the dryer.
Try a CD-R or DVD-R or something and see if you can apply pressure without marring it. If you can do that, then I might try it on the cluster gently.
