I’m actually shocked this happened. When I switched my shift knob I had to basically plant both feet on the ground, put the shifter in second gear and start doing dead lifts to remove the knob. Of course, when it finally did come off I punched myself in the face.

Are you sure it’s not just unseated? I only ask because the knob is just connected by friction, it doesn’t screw on like most cars. The linkage should simply have a notch in the center and the shifter just sits on top of it, held on by friction. You really have to slam the shifter down on the rod to get it to seat properly.
