The first iteration of the DME took like 4 years to hack; we'll all probably move on to the next G-Series generation M2 by the time they successfully get around in circumventing this new bootloader.

They should just put a hacker bounty on it to see if they can get someone else more experienced with security to do it for them for a price.

There are a lot of smart people out there, I'm sure someone will eventually reverse-engineer the current boot-loader.
It's really just a matter of how long it takes for the right person to penetrate the firewall and rewrite the programming to their own terms.
On the other end, I'm not upset at BMW, as they own the proprietary software and I can't blame them for trying to protect it, in an attempt to minimize the liability of potential warranty of claims.
