I would stay away from the Alps high elevation areas. Unless you want a filthy car, not sure they use salt there or put down sand on the roads. But with a new car seems not a good idea.
Personally I would avoid ED during winter, but that's just me.

October is fine, I did ED on my F80 in Oct 2015. My car won't be built until late Nov so to do ED I have to get it in Dec or Jan.
Is all of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy snowing during this time?
